Which is proper english. "Steph and Me" "Steph and I"?

Say there is a picture of a guy and a girl... what would the title of the picture be:

"Steph and I" or "Steph and me"

MrIzzz 03-26-2004 05:03 PM

If there's a verb in the sentence, the correct choice would be "I"

Warden 03-26-2004 05:05 PM

If you use it at the begining of a sentance it will be Steph and I. Otherwise it is Steph and me.

insanesurfer 03-26-2004 05:05 PM

Steph and I

this person is claiming having the title "Steph and I" is completely wrong... and that "Steph and me" is right.

he says you're all wrong.

Raven 03-26-2004 05:14 PM

That person is right.

Easy way to remember when to use what: remove the "X and". Now would you call a thread containing pictures of just yourself "Me" or "I"?

NetRodent 03-26-2004 05:16 PM

There are a lot of ignorant fucks on this board. "I" is a subject and "me" is a direct or indirect object.

Its really simple to tell when to use "I" as opposed to when to use "me". Simply remove Steph from the sentence and see what makes sense.

Right:
Steph and I went to the store.
I went to the store.

Wrong:
Steph and me went to the store.
Me went to the store.

--

Right:
John gave the ball to Steph and me.
John gave the ball to me.

Wrong:
John gave the ball to Steph and I.
John gave the ball to I.

--

And finally in the context of the picture...

Right:
Steph and me
Me

Wrong:
Steph and I
I

Here's a tip. Always take out "Steph and" and look at the sentence that way.

i.e.

1. I went to the store. (not Me went to the store)

2. Joe went to the store with me. (not Joe went to the store with I.)

stephanie m. 03-26-2004 07:03 PM

It feels like you guys are talking about me. :waaaaahh

NetRodent said it all.

A lot of people get it wrong because they're trying to get it right and they think "I" is always right. Holden Caulfield does this in Catcher in the Rye.
