We will give you a 10mbps capped line for $400 bucks anytime you want one.

This is based on your average bandwidth usuage 50 percentile, not 95th.. converted to gigs.

Huge diffrence.

Nice!

strobi 03-26-2004 01:20 PM

Because this is the best deal a webmaster could get from any host.

The ones that realize it anyway.

You are paying for average usuage.
Not peak, not 95th percentile.

and those who offer 1000 gigs for 100 bucks etc..
are actully converting the 95th percentile or peak traffic bw usuage into gigs and selling it to you.

MattO 03-26-2004 01:56 PM

I'm going to go nuts and try out that $9.95 plan. :thumbsup

Please pardon my ignorance, but can you please explain, numerically, what is meant by "Bandwidth pricings are based on 50th percentile converted to gigs."

My current dedicted is P4-2.4GHz, 1024RAM, 120GB HD, 400GB traffic for $75/mo (going to $100/mo in 2 years). I'd like to know why you're a better deal.

Many hosts to report bw usuage take the mrtg graph off their switch for the certain port (your server)

so say you doing 3 mbps on peak, 1 on average ....
95th percentile of that would be 2.85mbps.
Convert that into gigs (about 900 gigs) .. and your bandwidth (gigs usuage report)is based on that.

So really you are being billed for that or if they are offering you 900 gigs, thats what they are really giving you.

However, we take 50th percentile (average) meaning 1.5mbps and convert that into gigs and bill based on this.

so the 1.5 mbps (480 gigs)

Do you see what I am saying now?

Thanks for clearing that up...I was scratching my head before. :winkwink:
I would have replied sooner, but I had to teach class until just now. Take care.
