Does your cell phone cause speaker interference when it rings?

My speakers make funny noises seconds before my phone rings..

Why?

and only computer speakers. Not on car speakers or radio, nothing...

4Pics 03-24-2004 10:17 AM

my old phone did to my car stereo.

XxXotic 03-24-2004 10:17 AM

lots of electronic devices interfere with each other, depends on what frequency it's broadcasting whatever it is being used for on

Roald 03-24-2004 10:17 AM

mine does it on most speakers

It affects our stereo and PC speakers

dunno why yours only happens on your PC speakers
but im guessing it has somehting to do with frquency levels

we have a different frequency here in Aus - so thats why it affects more electricals I guess

Paraskass 03-24-2004 10:19 AM

It's annoying and surprises me every time when I am not expecting it.

Firehorse 03-24-2004 10:19 AM

I have so many phones on my desk that even when they are not ringing they cause interference with my PC speakers intermittently. :glugglug

it's liek a minefield

MASS interferance

kosmic 03-24-2004 10:20 AM

yeah, it s called EMF electronic magnetic frequency.

kinda like putting a magnet on your tv screen.

cell phones are very bad for electronics.

HS-Trixxxia 03-24-2004 10:20 AM

Same thing for us.....just the computer speakers though. I know 2-3 seconds before it starts to ring :-)

FrankWhite 03-24-2004 10:22 AM

yeah always, but its nextel i am used to it already!

StuartD 03-24-2004 10:23 AM

That's your cell phone performing a "hand shake" with the transceivers in your area... making the connection.

The signal is in a frequency that is audible, if picked up by a speaker.

And it just so happens, computer speakers are usually capable to picking up that frequency.

i keep my speakers turned down unless i specifically want to listen to something so i've never had that problem

Raf1 03-24-2004 10:25 AM

It happens with some speakers, but I haven't noticed it on my new ones. Maybe I just don't pay attention to it anymore...:)

jhauser 03-24-2004 10:27 AM

Thought I was the only one.. It's strange isn't it.

jimboc 03-24-2004 10:39 AM

Wires on car stereos are sheilded to stop them from picking up other signals, cheaper speakers devices may not be though...

Mike-BP 03-24-2004 11:23 AM

yes

Manowar 03-24-2004 11:33 AM

Yep happens here. It happens in public places to other people, so i think its general.

the speaker makes a couple of wierd low tone blip noises before i get an incoming call or text message

Lykos 03-25-2004 05:21 AM

Mine does. I love it, when people are over I hear the speaker noise and I yell "my phone is going to ring," then it does. Then I tell them that I am psychic. Great fun. :thumbsup

hova 03-25-2004 05:24 AM
