Histry Channel had this cool documentary last night on drugs. It covered marijuana, amphetamines etc. and it's history in the word and US. I like the parts about how they became illegal and the propoganda campaigns they used to persuade congress to pass those laws.

The part that surprisesd me the most though was that they said the Natzi's were all given speed to enhance there senses and make then better soldiers. That's why they would march right through cities days at a time non stop. Kinda amazing to realize the whole freaking German army were a bunch of paranoid speed freaks, lol. Sure explains a lot.

Anyone else see the show?

Sappy 03-23-2004 02:13 PM

edit: double post.

Sappy 03-23-2004 02:13 PM

Damn, I wish I would've seen that.

I remember in the Salton Sea, they mention that speed was given to Japanese kamikaze pilots to make them a bit more willing to perform. I'm not sure how much truth there is to that claim though.

D-Money 03-23-2004 02:14 PM

Explains alot.

Were they all smoking it or snorting it?

They were given it as pills or something and then they realized they could open them up and put them in there coffee and drinks. I believe they called them "bennies" or something.

Hey is anyone else getting "Detoxed" as the first poster name here? It's me Meloman posting not Detoxed. Not sure what's up.

Edit: Ok I see THIS post showing my name. Weird that the first one doesnt' though. Oh well, lol

It mentioned that as well during the show. The Kamikaze pilots were in fact given speed. In helped keep then awake for the flight and gave then a sense of well being etc. so they could perform there duty.

the british used to give the soldiers speed during ww1...

delgato 03-23-2004 02:27 PM

Not too amazing. We give it to USAF pilots before missions..

We even give it to our children who we diagnose with ADHD.

Prescription fat burners.. ect.

Hustler DJ 03-23-2004 02:49 PM

Yep, the US military spin doctors have quieted the issue down, but was getting pretty wide coverage a few years ago. Here's what ABC News had to say about it back in the day...

Scary shit. Problem is, it seems like it works... :(

Hitler's scientists invented the "Birch" method of meth production which is popular in many parts of trailer park America today. At the height of the Weimar campaign he was getting 8 meth injections a day.

Digipimp 03-23-2004 03:10 PM

The US soldiers had that shit too, they all used to back then.

Ironhorse 03-23-2004 03:11 PM

All armies experiment with that - Germany was way advanced in all fields, it was german engineers captured in WW2 that put US on the moon, US army has similar sleep deprivation projects, the perfect soldier would never sleep, always be alert, ready to die for his country.

Uppers were widely used in WWII by most soldiers. Germans, US, Japanes, Russians. I know the US soldiers were instructed to use it only when necessary - and still do today. After WWII, there were quite a few addicts.
