Whats the point of a blank email spam
 

I get a few emails that have NO SUBJECT, NO BODY, and NO FILE ATTACHEMENTS. Why the hell do people send those emails. Its not like they can make a cent off something like that.

I always just assumed it was a bug in a certain mailing software. But Kitty's idea makes a bit of sense, too.

It's a test to see the address actually exisits, the real spams will start tomorrow.

I don't really know, it may have a virus or something. A lot of peopel just want to waste their time doing nothing.

Any decent emailer wont need to send a real email to find out if your still there. Mail servers respond whether your email is valid long before it gets to your box. If its truly blank its a mistake. But it could very well have "hidden" code to verify if he's too stupid to use the right software.

If you have your mail client set to display all mail in plain text, some of the HTML shit dosent make it through. And there is no discount for blank spam - they all get sued the same.

most ppl get an email with no attachment no message no subject
they think:

"Oh maybe someone was trying to contact me for an important reason - I better get in otuch with them and see what it is about!"

phone sellers do this all the time nowadayas also
call your cell phone and hang up after one ring - so you call THEM back..then they spam you

It's a fuck up - period. If they were using it to test an email address (or addresses) why not include some spam? Fuck up plain and simple... and I am sure that there is no one at the other end waiting for a reply either. The return address is always fake.

Some viruses fuck up after being spread on different computers and instead of attaching itself to the virus it just sends blank mails.

no one is going to send a "Test" spam just to validate your email address. It takes almost the same amount of resources to validate an address as it does to send a actual message.
