Not sure what Cox's plans are in NY but I know Cox offers really nice internet speeds if your house has new wiring. Its all about the wiring in the house and the amount of traffic on the node. Fortunately my house has new wiring and the node has very very little noise.

Comcast just did the same thing here recently (and I heard from a friend who works for them at thier call center that they are gonna announce a rate increase in a couple of months too - so they were just buttering us up for the rate increase) - they went to 4 MB down and they already were at 384K.

If Cox is anything like Comcast (which I have heard that it is) you wont even notice an increase in speeds and the uptime and service will still suck.

And I put new quad sheild RG6 from the NI to the modem in. Complete with high quality T&B SNS connectors. Still didnt help.

I keep my Verizon BDSL at 768K up and down (with 10 static IPs), thanks anyway.

Cool, I have had 3.0 with Cox for a while in Vegas.
:thumbsup

My internet went from 1.5 to 3, and they have a 4MB out there. Its 4 down and 1 up.

foolio 03-22-2004 10:58 PM

Hey cool! And I bet they will charge a low price of $300 a month for it!

stephanie m. 03-22-2004 11:01 PM

I had cox in Arkansas and they were always down.

The internet is much faster if its on a filtered system. If your system does not use Ingress Bandstop filters then the node will get hellas saturated with noise from peoples shitty equipment lie shitty tvs etc bad house wiring. Our system is filtered at the moment and the internet rocks!

What do you have? My BDSL is faster than that, and I can host on it without breaking my TOS.

Axeman 03-23-2004 01:03 AM

It sure would be nice to get quicker speeds with Cox. Its alright but not lightning all the time

Alex Xe 03-23-2004 01:34 AM

ADSL 1 Mbit with Unmetric bandwidth - $75 per month.

rounders 03-23-2004 01:35 AM

Word is they are gonna go to $54.95 per month unless you buy cable service from them as well, then you get $49.95 per month for internet plus modem rental if you rent.

I left them because everytime they had those 12 hour outages they didnt wanna issue a credit. They said you only get a credit if you are down for more than 24 consecutive hours. They had like 10 days in a row here where we'd be dead for 12 to 18 hours and then up for a few more and back down again. I called, no credit.

I wrote a letter to them and carbon copied the better business bureau, telling them that I just paid my bill in full, it was my understanding that they terminated accounts not paid for 60 days. I said that if the issue wasnt resolved to my satisfaction by the time 60 days rolled around, they'd need to get them a new customer. About a week later, I got a call from someone at Comcast and they left a message on my voicemail that said "This is so and so with Comcast, if you are still have problems please call 1-866...." not even a direct line or a name or nothing. It was obvious they didnt care.

I said "fuck this shit" and I went and had Verizon install business DSL. That was a pain in the ass to get going. I had a DSL modem here, and thier sales people told me I could use it. Well, come to find out that wasnt so, you have to use the Westel modem for static service.

They said they'd overnight me the right one, no charge. It didnt come the next day, they told me there was a delay and it would be here tommrow - for sure. When it came, they had sent me the wrong modem. I called, was getting angry at this point, they promised the right one the next day. The next day, there were three boxes from UPS sent overnight, all of them had westel modems in them. LOL. So I got 3 of them now.

So I plugged it in and got started on setting it up, when I found out that they only gave me one IP and I was supposed to have a block of 10. Well, that was a real headache and I yelled until I got all the way to a regional call center manager. She managed to push along the process of getting me a my full block of IP addresses, apparently one of thier people fucked up when telling Level3 what to provision my account for.

After it was all said and done, she gave me 2 free months of service as an apology for the hassle, plus the 30 day trial and $250.00 rebate that was part of the package. She gave me her direct line so I could get ahold of her in the future too. So it was a good deal in the end.

Then I called Comcast and told them to come and get thier fucking modem out of my office. Once setup and working, Verizon's DSL is top notch. Not a single problem and NO slowdowns or fuckups.

Too bad Cox cable isn't available here... but my DSL averages 1.2:)
