What would you do if you had to leave Adult?

If you were finished by day's end for whatever reason, what would you do? If you could no longer run your sites, be a sale's person, shoot content, be content, sell traffic...what would you do in the mainstream?

Would you apply for eCommerce positions in the mainstream and if so, would you hide / fudge your background?

Obviously, some of the real big players have strategically diversified into the mainstream, but for many people, they either haven't or would still need to supplement income with a mainstream job.

kmanrox 03-22-2004 12:04 PM

If I can develop a limp or a lisp, I could be a greeter at Walmart.

cool1 03-22-2004 01:03 PM

I have plans on leaving adult but if it did happen
well then I would have to devote my time to my mainstream sites and smoke more weed to help keep me from getting bored and to dull the pain.

I've always had a fantasy of playing with someone who was REALLY flexible. . .:winkwink:

Maybe that's why I like Cirque de Soleil so much!

Kimmykim 03-22-2004 01:43 PM

There's plenty of stuff to do out there...

Peaches 03-22-2004 02:47 PM

I've always wondered what I put on a resume for the last several years if I went back into the corporate world. I can skirt the issue "Self employed internet advertising" like I do with some of my family members :winkwink: but someone who really wanted to delve would need more info.

My plan is to buy and sell land in my area in addition to adult so HOPEFULLY I would still be covered, but that fear of drafting a resume always lurks in the back of my tiny brain. :eek7

Vitasoy 03-22-2004 03:03 PM

I would probably be a mechanic.

WiredGuy 03-22-2004 03:14 PM

SEO for mainstream. Everyone needs SE traffic.

"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived."-Thoreau

....so that's what i want to do, except exchange the word "woods" with Baja Mexico and add something about surfing every day, fishing and sending mainstream mail marketing via an international third party distributor.:thumbsup

Odie 03-22-2004 03:30 PM

Peaches you nailed it. That is the major issue. Like WiredGuy said, everyone needs SEO so likely he could just transition right over to the mainstream.

But here is a good example of what I am talking about. When I left my last marketing job, I was making money from other promotions and living, well, good. But, I got that itch to go back to work again and just pull the old workaholic thing. So, I started applying for mainstream jobs and disclosing what my experience was from did not help :)

Thing is, this industry is tainted (perception-wise to mainstream companies). Don't get me wrong, I got creative with "how I disclosed it," but still, it is tough out there.

When I was looking for mainstream marketing jobs, I learned exactly how tied to the industry I am. Hell, many companies wanted to know: examples of ad copy written, sites promoted, consumer traffic spots I worked deals with....most of which can not be easily fudged.

I am not planning to leave my Weg marketing job, nor any of my personal interest without a good fight, but, I do at times think about what may happen if I have to get back into mainstream.

Sure, a lot is out there and I am sure I would get into the groove of things, but I don't think it would be without a few headaches.

smack 03-22-2004 05:40 PM

Are you in SoCal?

I surf rather frequently. I sure as hell wish I could find a way to do that for a living. Damn, life would be good.

Tala 03-22-2004 05:42 PM

I'd remain a writer. I've found the job I love, now I'm sticking with it.

Traveling is great man. That would be the life. I actually took about a month and went around South America; one of the best things I have ever done.
