How to buy a TGP

Please tell me what to do when buying an active TGP with a lot traffic and trades going on. What should I remember to make sure I'm not being cheated and to make a smooth transition.

Beware if all traffic is from trades. I own many TGP's and I can put a lot of traffic into one by sending it from my other sites and then after you buy it I can kill the traffic and send it to another TGP which I will sell you through a new email address.

Yes, I am a noob TGP buyer, never bought one. That's why I want to see what other people have to say. And yes, I already thought about the obvious ways to screw other webmasters...

Here's an idea,

Don't buy a TGP, just build one for free with GMS http://mastergalleries.com

It has sponsor hosted galleries already in it and
that's how you make money and get free content.

Then buy the traffic from legit sources like

chickentraffic.com or trafficbrokers.com

That's your best bet

check the traffic stats at www.alexa.com (I know it's inaccurate but you could at least see how "stable" and old this site is there)

Check alexa
Check overture searchs
Check Digital Point searches
Check trade postion

if you dont know this now - you should not buy a TGP!

Wouldn't it just be better to start your own tgp, buying traffic and the scripts then to pay 1000's for something that's not really that hard to get at for less money?

Head 03-21-2004 05:28 PM

For $200-$500 you can get someone good here to design one for you. Then you can get free script or pay $600 for really good script. And buy some traffic to get started; www.adulttrafficsales.com.
Then all you need is hosting.
That's the way to go.

Juicy D. Links 03-21-2004 05:28 PM

Tuga on a serious note dont buy a tgp with traffic if you are not comfortable with trade scripts and tgp mangement yet

Steve 03-21-2004 05:59 PM

if you think you can maintain the trades, you need to have a copy of a trade script running on an spare IP that you will move this TGP domain over too

transfer all the trade account info into the new script, so it is ther when you update the nameserver info

same thing with the admin script
make sure you have all the files, and try to get a recent mysql data dump on the tables (structure and data)

you need any/all HTML and graphics

all this has to be in place, uploaded on your host, before you update the DNS

Thanks for the replies, I guess I should have explained better.

I know trade scripts. I know TGPs. I run TGPs.

I NEVER bought a TGP from another webmasters, I am looking into a very good deal (if it's honest) , but I dont want to get screwed. I know even experienced webmasters get scammed, so I was asking from your experience, what's the most important things to check and what's the best way to make this kind of deal.

I was thinking about paying 50% upfront and the rest a couple of weeks later if the site doesnt die right away. I was thinking about asking for the login to the trade script and some kind of stats. What else should I look at or demand, to be sure the guy is honest? I also looked at his trades and I'm going to talk to a frined that trades with him.

crockett 03-21-2004 06:13 PM

just make sure you know who you are dealing with... I bought a TGP once and it was all the bad things that your not suposed to do.. I bought it from a guy in Russia and sent him a wire.. lol but I did quite a bit of research on him and the site before hand.. still it was not a great feeling sending off a bank wire with nothing to show for it right away...

But in the end everything went well and I'm happy with the deal

:)

you should definately have some type of agreement where if the site dies in the first week or something you get your money back. i would verify the stats and find out where all the traffic is coming from so you know what you are dealing with

Basic_man 03-21-2004 08:31 PM

You pay 50%, then he transfert it, then you pay the other 50%

Pipecrew 03-21-2004 08:33 PM

dont waste your time, just tell me the site and i will buy it.

SleazyDream 03-21-2004 08:33 PM

age , volume of traffic, quality of the trades, and bookmarks determine the price

Living For Today 03-21-2004 08:35 PM

Start your own tgp.
