Jeff Buckley was a Musical Genius

I just got the 2 disc version of Live at Sin-E (+ includes a bonus DVD) and am listening to it now. Jeff was a musical genius - I'm just blown away by these recordings. Anyone who loved Grace, you should get this CD set - it was recorded right after he signed his record deal and just shows his limitless talent and virtuosity. It's just raw - him singing solo with his guitar - but the passion he puts into his music is fucking amazing. And I think it's a lot better then the Mystery White Boy recordings as well. Just wanted to share. If you don't know who Buckley is, you should start with Grace. If you're a hippity-hopper, probably don't bother. You just won't get it.

I miss him too.

Dirty F 03-20-2004 06:14 PM

I have all his cd's, live performances, probably about 75 mp3's and im reading a book about him atm.

He's one of the best artists ever.

Dirty F 03-20-2004 06:17 PM

You know he got signed for 3 records plus 100k upfront while he didnt have anything yet but a lousy 4 track solo demo.

It was 1 year later before Grace was recorded and that he found a band to play with.

They knew basically nothing about him, he was discovered by playing in Sin-e every week.

Hey Badmunchkin, do you know the song Forget her? If not then download it. It was supposed to be the first single from the Grace album but at the last moment Jeff didnt want to release it. Its an awesome song.

We had a chance to takeover his old apartment in Manhattan a few years back. My girl's best friend was part of his management team and had been living in the place since Jeff's death.

Now I'm listening to Grace. God I love that voice.

Imagine the music he would be making now if he was still alive. Grace was only his debut album - it is by far the best debut I have ever heard from ANYBODY. And I have a lot of CDs.
:thumbsup

no man, I'm looking for it now. I love that unreleased song "What Will You Say" too - seems to be about his dad Tim Buckley - excellent stuff.

Q Magazine in Britain rated Grace one of the top 25 records of all time, and up to then had never heard of him, but with such a huge recomendation from Q, I had to buy it and it's awesome.

NOT I worked with that Jack ass way over Fucking Rated

fuckerWAD 08-25-2004 05:19 PM

I always heard good things about Mr. Buckley, but never listened to him. I will fire up Rhapsody and listen.

My genius is Mr. Jack White of the White Stripes. Best damn shit ever. Stripped down and raw! I had been listening to House and Trance for the past 5 years because all rock went to pooh, then I heard some White Stripes and rock is back baby! Album De Stijl is absolutely phenomenal.

I Worked for Colubmia Records. I was actually the one who broke the news to the NW branch about his death via teldon. I was working late and my buddy at Colubmia in NY told me before anyone at my branch new. Kinda Trippy. Jeff didn't suck he had talent but he was an arrogant prick. Also, I don't think he would of been a big star even if he had lived. Everyone else at the label seemed to think so but i never thought he was that great

I wouldnt know if hes arrogant or not but i do know hes one of the most talented musical artists i listen to.

Any possibility of getting something personal of him through you? I guess its hard since he doesnt live anymore ofcourse but maybe you have an autograph or something lying around? Id pay you for it ofcourse.

Haha thats too bad. I could try ebay but something from someone who actually knew him is cooler and safer to buy.

Jealous about the award. If you ever want to get rid of it dont forget me :)

Or if you need cash, id prolly pay a good amount for it :)

Probably shows why you don't work there anymore. Grace spent about 56 weeks in the charts climbing to #9 here. If he had have lived through to the present day when bands like Coldplay and the like and more introspective less grungey music is coming to the fore I have no doubt he would have been even bigger.

every genius is arrogant - it's part of being a genius (ok, but being a prick doesn't always mean you're a genius either).

I think he was just aloof - that's how he comes across in video performances and interviews. Unfortunately, in music, the cream doesn't usually rise to the top. So yea, he might never have achieved the status & popularity of someone like ummmm... P Diddy.

Doesn't mean he wasn't brilliant in his abilities. The singer from Coldplay has admitted that everytime he sings he's trying to channel Buckley - too bad he's a third-rate imitation. Don't get me wrong, I like Coldplay strictly as a pop act - but there's innovators and imitators and whatever you want to say about Jeff Buckley - you can't deny that he was totally his own creation. :2 cents:

Mmmmm -- what a sexy femmey motherfucker!! Thanks for the pics!

I made a pilgrimage to Memphis to see the river that took him . . . well, and in honor of Elvis too. Hehehe.

Not familiar with his stuff. I just did some reading about him. How does his dad's music (Tim Buckley) compare to Jeff's stuff?
