Any Google experts, please - A search result with an affiliate link?
 

If you do a search for some sponsor on Google, sometimes a listing comes up that links to the site with a ref code in the tag.

This has even happened to me once, so i *think* it's done without any kind of intention.

Can anyone tell me how or why this happens?

Perhaps because there are alot of inlinks to that? How many times have to linked to a certain refcode that ended up in Google?

lots of keyword targeted inbound links? also depends on how the sponsor has the ref code set up.

Sometimes google did this for me and signups were great :thumbsup

I've noticed that also, somewhat rarely though. If people could control that type of thing, you wouldnt see SE spam in the form of FPA's. You'd see top results populated with peoples ref links.

Exactly.Google is following most affiliate links now and if the link lands on sponsor's page that has text then that link to that site will rank in google's serps for keywords on that sponsors page.
If the affiliate has a high enough pr then the position can be quite high.
Of course only 2 affiliate links will show in the serps so its usually the ones with the highest pr.
Bangbros,clickmedia,wegcash are some sponsors with affiate links in the serps.
