What resolution to build sites for?

For TGPs, should the site be built for

800x600
1024x768
use % tables
or detect resolution and send to diff page

?

there are downsides to all
800x600 is too fukcing small
1024x768 looks shit for people using 800x600
% tables never gives you the look you want in all resolutions
detecting resolutions means building 2 pages, and using crappy hahahahahahahahahaha

your input please

i try to build % based, but if i want to do a design that doesn't work that way, 800x600

Ash@phpFX 03-20-2004 01:40 AM

im talking about tgp sites, not galleries by the way guys

I build for 800x600, although I've noticed 1024x768 is actually more popular now according to my stats.

800x600 for a while yet.

Lowest common denominator! There's plenty of design tricks to make it look alright on a higher res as well.

AaronM 03-20-2004 01:45 AM

800x600

800x600

Unfortunately.

Why not use those scripts which detect screen size?

Then you can build two different pages (or more) and have them perfect for everyone :)

infecto 03-20-2004 01:48 AM

too much trouble for me to build two sites just for a tgp. People are there too look at porn so if you do it right even if its for 800x600 it will look nice at a higher res

Ash@phpFX 03-20-2004 02:17 AM

800x600 is what my brain is telling me, im just looking for an excuse not to do it

SomeCreep 03-20-2004 06:00 AM

TweetyBird 03-20-2004 06:02 AM

1024x768

Manowar 03-20-2004 06:06 AM

1024x768

I build my sites based on what I use and what is popular at the time. 1024x768 is definetly being used more nowdays

sexsup 03-20-2004 07:05 AM
