Courtney Love had a wild night Wednesday in New York that started with her flashing her breasts at least six times during an appearance on the "Late Show with David Letterman," and ended with her being arrested in a Big Apple bar for allegedly beaning a guy with a microphone stand.

Love was charged with reckless endangerment and third-degree assault after the 2:30 a.m. fracas at the Plaid nightclub. No details were given. The 24-year-old man Love allegedly struck was taken to a hospital in stable condition, police said.

Love, who is facing felony drug charges in California, repeatedly lifted her olive shirt several times on David Letterman's CBS talk show.

Her back was to the camera when she exposed herself while she made an entrance. She then stood atop Letterman's desk, sang a few bars of "Danny Boy," and offered the host an up-close viewing. The video was altered so a profile of her breasts could not be seen.

"Very sweet of you," Letterman said. "We're going to lose our liquor license."

Love faces drug-possession and disorderly conduct charges after allegedly trying to break into the Los Angeles home of a former boyfriend in October. She was treated for a drug overdose on the same night.

During the Letterman show, Love lit up a cigarette -- defying New York City's strict anti-smoking laws -- and asked Letterman, "Are you going to cut this because I'm smoking?"

"That won't be the reason we cut anything," he replied.

Letterman looked profoundly uncomfortable with Love's scatterbrained performance, but he did get the last word. He was looking to cut to a commercial, but Love insisted he ask her one more question.

"How much do you weigh?" Letterman said.

Love looked shocked. She didn't answer.

MUST-BLEEP TV: This must be Letterman's year of living dangerously. Either that or it's the winter of sticking it to CBS. Or something. But Janet Jackson is coming back to CBS, the network on which she bared her breast during the infamous Super Bowl half-time show, for a guest appearance on Letterman's talk show March 29.

The appearance will mark Jackson's first TV interview since the Super Bowl incident. She's also slated to appear March 31 on ABC's Good Morning America, the syndicated "On Air with Ryan Seacrest" on April 2, and on April 10, she will host Saturday Night Live. Jackson's new CD is due stores in March 30. You do the math.

A CBS spokeswoman for "Late Show" said there were no restrictions on the Jackson interview, which means Letterman will be free to ask her all about her (CENSORED!) and her (CENSORED!), and even her (CENSORED CENSORED CENSORED!!!). And Jackson's rep Stephen Huvane said CBS was not demanding that she apologize for the Super Bowl Nipplegate on Letterman's show.

WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE: Now that singer Whitney Houston has acknowledged her drug problem and entered rehab, her concerned family members have gathered round to do the most caring, supporting and nurturing thing they can think of: blame Bobby Brown.

Britain's Daily Mail newspapers quoted a source close to the singer as saying her family forced her into rehab "after she had become "incapable of looking after herself because of her drug habit." Another source said Houston's devoutly religious family has felt for years that Brown, the singer's husband, was the root of the problem. "We wish she'd never met him," the source said. "He has completely led her astray and it has been ruining her." Brown is serving a 60-day prison sentence for violating parole.

Meanwhile, another report Thursday said it was Clive Davis, the new head of the BMG, the company that owns Houston's record label, who got the singer into rehab. Davis has long been a mentor to and champion of Houston, and sources told MSNBC.com that "Whitney is one of (Davis') pet projects. He wants to fix her up and get her back in working order. He pulled a little tough love on her and told her, basically, get clean or get out."

IT COULD BE WORSE, HE COULD BE PATENTING HIS COMB-OVER: Donald Trump, star of hot new reality show "The Apprentice," has applied with the U.S. Patent Office to trademark the show's trademark phrase -- "You're fired," reports the Smoking Gun Web site. Yes, the everyday phrase would become Trump's exclusive domain if the real estate mogul gets his way. The Smoking Gun says Trump's application says he wants the exclusive right to slap the phrase on T-shirts and novelties (combs, maybe?) and in advertising campaigns for his casino properties, where countless minimum wage employees are gleefully given the heave-ho on a regular basis.
