/\ describing all that shit about oil is more like an entire topic or issue...it has to be more like defining/describing a specific word...or lil phrase or something...a corny example was the word "stereotyping" and the dude defined it and talked about how it is used blah blah blah...but that shit is hella lame...i want to talk about something creative...

Basically, you're saying you need to give an informative speech... why not explain what the term "nascar dad" means, considering it's an election year? It's not an exciting topic, but it's an idea.

Give a nicely structured speech on the word "Falling"
Introduction: (30 to 45 sec) -Talk about the impact of the word. In terms of how dangerous falling can be. Sure, you may think it's silly, but it's the 3rd leading cause of death and injury. (attention getter some fact about falling) lead into, "today we will examine the meaning of the word, explore some impacts falling can have, and finally draw some conclusions on the word. II: Definition of the word (1:00) -Get the dictionary meaning of the word falling. -Joke that it can mean to fall for someone which can also be as dangerous as falling down. III: Discuss the impact:(1:00) (get it falling... impact) that falling can have on people. I.E. Broken bones, brusies, and other injuries. -Elderly tend to fall the most frequently due to loss of motor skills. -Younger people fall from more active occasions like sports. IV: Conclusion (1:00) -We fall, it hurts, we should attempt to reamin standing upright -Falling is the third leading cause of death and injury. -Both older and younger people fall with older people having the more frequent and serious instances. -Overall, it is incredible how much impacts a small verb has on the American population. This loosely done and filled it should take you about (3:45 - 4:15) -Leaving you time for good transitions. TRANSITIONS: From your into, give them the setup.... We will discuss the meaning by definition, the impact, and draw conclusions on this is verb. Moving from intro to point II: To begin an understanding of the word falling is needed. Moving into point II: tell them something like now that we have a good definition, it's time to examine the impact. Moving into point IV: With a firm understanding of the meaning and the impact, it's time to draw a few conclusions about this word. With these transitions, you should be well into (4:15 to 4:45) -Fill in and time it. -Use transitions because your instructor will be looking for defined structure and clear movement through the speech following that structure. Good Luck |
I would also run it just a couple times to make sure you are in time... You will want to be within 30 seconds of the 5:00 marker. So 4:30 would be a perfect target.
Don't forget to gesture and put your arms back down at your sides when not using them for needed gestures. Time it a couple times because you will deliver it faster in front of the class then by yourself. Pick three people (left, center, right) and use them for focal points. If looking at them will distract you, look just over their heads at the wall behind them. (it will appear that you are looking at them). Don't forget to breathe. It's okay to pause to breathe, just don't get into long sing songy patterns of speech because you aren't breathing well. |
