okay..I'll bite.. why would they want to lie about it??

its not going to create a panic.. not going to upset any religious groups.. actually it only benefits us when we can start teraforming other planets and sending food etc. back to earth.

If you think NASAs goal is the enhancement of the general public's knowledge your overly optimistic about the government.

Seems an odd place to aim your drill bit though. After taking close up shots of that specific area showing a very unnatural segmented rock formation.
