Spyware trouble...
 

Whenever I visit sites that say certain keywords, like "free porn", free porn is turned into a link pointing to some sort of search engine. I just ran Ad Aware and it cleaned up a bunch of stuff but I'm still getting the links.

What else should I do to take care of this?

did you try spybot SD? try that, it catches a lot that adaware doesnt ... if that fails, install linux :)

don't even search for "free porn" u know its not gonna be as soon as u search for that!

First thing to try is CWShredder

If you can't figure out HJT then post the log from it and I'll tell you
what to checkmark and delete.

When your successful in killing it post the results so the other BHO-hook whores know their shit is lame.

SpyBot and adware used together work well, I have spybot scheduled to run at like 5am every morning as well.

to top it off they are both free.. just always always make sure when you run the app you check for updates.:warning

yeah same here about a year ago I didnt know what spyware was enough. So i downloaded spybot and I had like 20-30 types of adware on my computer. I was surprised because i never ran *.exe files ever

every program you run is an exe file, remind me again how it is you go through life not running exe's?

Definately try CWShredder and Spybot S&D - they find stuff that Adaware doesn't.

try resetting the defaults in IE... under tools, internet options.

In order for it to put those links in it had to make changes....

Spybot is a great proggy but in this case no spyware remover is going to spot a
BHO hook. Neither Spybot or that crappy Ad-aware are geared to deal with BHO
hooks that alter searches.

Ad-aware can fuck up your computer. I am building a log of users complaining
after removing stuff with Ad-aware.

Years ago when all this spyware shit started Ad-aware stood alone but they stopped
working on it and Spybot took up the slack. Ad-aware has been trying to catch up
ever since.

The Ad-aware ppl stopped working on it so they could work on some very shitty
games they made. After the game thing pooched out they jumped back on Ad-aware.

Spybot doesn't have a bad track record, it just keeps on killing spyware and you still
have a functioning comp after the removals.

Lamer.

You get spyware from freeware, shareware, and clicking "YES" to install warning popups.

So basically you get spyware if your lame and not paying attention to wtf your clicking on.

i'm a paranoid lil mowse. i've got these programs:

Win Patrol

spyware blaster

hijackthis

bigfix

and adaware.

i use them all.

Nothing wrong with being paranoid TM. Bascially you only need to scan if you installed a new proggy. This is assuming you don't click on "YES" to WindowsXX install warning popups

there's a lot of spyware/bho's that auto-install without the dialogue box.

get a mac, then you won't have any probelms

Not possible, sorry TM. I'm not thumpin' on you as a matter of fact I have
the highest respect for you but in this case your incorrect.

We are at the point with WindowsXX where so many of the backdoors
have been closed by M$ that all that is left for virii writers and spyware
injectors is a conformation from the user in some way. So you have to
click to get it, there is no other way.

If you have a link or other info that confirms there is some spyware/bho that
can get in WindowsXX without user confirmation then I would love to have that
and I will retract everything I said.

MACs are the best DVD players but after that they serve no purpose. Over priced candy boxes.

perhaps you are correct. perhaps what happens is the programs i've already installed continously download and install programs i've not given permission to install.

that and i keep my active x enabled. i know, big mistake.

No worries about ActiveX anymore your fine with that.

There use to be a backdoor in WindowsXX, a thing called
DCOM ActiveX exploit used to bugger you around but that door
was closed by M$ long ago.
