quiet - BC snow advice needed
Any idea how long the season is going to last this year? I'm interested mostly in the snow cover on the steep stuff at BLackcomb.. the "couloir extreme" type stuff & bowls.
One of my buddies, a patroller at Heavenly, came back with some great pics of all the steep, wide bowls.. stuff you never see in the brochures. Said he met a 13 year old kid at the top of the extreme who was chiding his dad for only skiing the "so-called couloir extreme".. then headed off to some even steeper run to the skiers right. Apparently the father lost an edge 3 turns down and slid the whole thing. uninjured but said it was the scariest ride of his life. |
Blackcomb is opened till April 25th, Whistler is open till June 6th. then the glacier (at the top of Blackcomb) is open until August 1st. opens up again on November 22nd. i'm really looking forward to glacier snowboarding in 20 C weather this summer...
there is some crazy terrain up here, and i'm just learning my way around. the place is HUGE. conditions are pretty much always great. and if you want easily accessible extreme, this is the place to be :glugglug edit: 'couloir extreme' is usually accessible until August 1st. |
Cool, thanks. Lift served steep stuff is pretty much what I'm interested in. I've skied close to 100 days this year and have come to the conclusion that you're far safer on some 45 degree ungroomed double diamond by yourself than on an intermediate trail at Heavenly or Squaw on the weekend. Its like a fucking LA freeway.. slowpokes.. drunk beginners.. speed demons.. all on a trail just steep enough for weekend warriors to get out of control on.
