Another shark attack
over on Kaua'i.... guy put a beat down on this one and got lucky...
(Lihu'e, Kaua'i) --A shark attacked a surfer along Kauai's north shore. The incident happened around 7:45 Tuesday morning at Kalihiwai Beach. The surfer, 51 year old Bruch Orth, caught a few waves before the unexpected attack. "Sitting on my board, waiting for the next set and out of nowhere a shark comes up and from a couple of feet and he came so fast and he lunged to the front of the board and just chomped on the rail. I gave him a couple of whacks on the nose and once I got him off my board he basically dove back under and we waited from him to come up again. I yelled at my buddies 'shark, shark.' linkage |
While sharks tend to be very erratic, some studies link "seal looking" images created by humans on surfboards may trigger attacks.

I once read that most attacks happen in the afternoon (around 4) in water depths of 3-5 feet
