ICQ status messages. Do you ignore them?

Am I the only person who uses an icq status for what it's intended? If it says I'm away... then yes, believe it or not, I'm AWAY!

If I'm not "online", then why do you message me? Do you really expect I'll answer?

StickyGreen 03-16-2004 07:11 PM

i never understood why everyone uses icq...it fucken sucks...

it was one of the first messengers but besides that, i dont see why so many people still use it. I wish more people would start using AIM.

aim sucks
no history, no offline msgs, nothing
it sucks!

born4porn 03-16-2004 07:19 PM

I sometimes message people even when they are in away status so they can hit me up as soon as they get back, it all depends on the type of situation. :2 cents:

AIm sucks - too mauch spyware adware bullshit

I am one of the annoying ppl who leave ICQ status as "online" 24/7
if someone REALLY wants to talk to me - they can wait

:glugglug

fuzebox 03-16-2004 07:25 PM

I always message people regardless of their status. If they're away, then they'll see it when they get back. If they're set to do not disturb, it won't pop up the window anyway, and they'll see it when they want to. If they're offline, they'll see it when they come online.

As for mine, my messengers are set to auto away after 5 min, so if I'm away from the computer for longer than a bathroom break, I'll be marked away, which is pretty accurate. People still message me, which I'm ok with, since I'm marked away they should know not to expect an instant response.

:2 cents:

I think there's so many people who leave their status on invisible, or N/A or away these days, that people have just developed an immunity to it and ignore them, assuming that the person is most likely there.

So now if I turn my icq off for so much as 30 mins, I come back to messages from people. And it's usually messages that I can tell they're expecting an immediate answer to.

I'm online as much as possible, ICQ me when I'm away and I'll get back to you

sickkittens 03-16-2004 07:34 PM

If someone's away, I'll still message them - it's sorta like voice mail...half the time if I don't message them, I'll forget to. :2 cents:

cool1 03-16-2004 07:35 PM

I am guilty of doing that.
I ICQ folks when I need to and they can answer when ever they want.
I tend to forget what I have in mind, if I wait to long to get it out.
(I must be getting old or smokin to much weed)

Rorschach 03-16-2004 07:37 PM

I kind of think of it as an answering service, I don't see anything bad about messaging someone when they're offline... plus I leave mine showing invisible or offline all the time anyway.
