What currency is that in? CDN? Seems a very high amount for tax and customs, when the shirt is probably worth what, $25-30?

machinegunkelly 03-16-2004 12:08 PM

The shirts value was marked as $30 USD ,
so I got taxed 15.99 CND for it .

I probally couldve bought the same shirt in the local rock tshirt shop for less LOL ..

leave it to the government to ruin someones good deed .

Thanks Consumption Junction , I do appreciate the shirt :)

wow that sucks, you have to pay the exact same price for what the t shirt would have cost if it wasnt free, in postage fees.

Screw that

LadyMischief 03-16-2004 12:32 PM

It really sucked I got a bill for my shirt, but I didn't get the shirt.. for some reason it got sent back! Maybe they can hit me up and I can figure out with them what went wrong.. Fortunately Fedex reversed the charges, but getting the bill was the only way I knew it was even sent! LOl

CJ rocks though!

Juicy D. Links 03-16-2004 12:33 PM

Declare it as a gift or sample merchandise so you dont get hit with it.

Tips from Juicyyyyyyyyyy

It costs as much as the fucking shirt... That's sad . I got like 150 $ to pay them right now I think

JFK 03-16-2004 12:57 PM

that is not just tax and duty , probably there is a brokerage fee involved:2 cents:

Wow, a 15.99 t-shirt tax? That's dumb as tits on toast. I should look into opening an international t-shirt smuggling ring. Maybe pay impressionable young kids with nothing to lose to wear them over the border.

On the bright side, you wear the shirt well. Enjoy it, and sorry for the hassle.

Nysus 03-16-2004 01:36 PM

It wasn't marked as gift?

Cheers,
Matt

pradaboy 03-16-2004 03:02 PM

that sucks man, I got mine 2 weeks ago but I didn't have to pay anything.

Fletch XXX 03-16-2004 03:03 PM

30 bucks for a tshirt? Gimme a break, rock shirts are printed for like 3-6 bucks here in LA

you can get shirts printed 4 color design in LA for like 5 bucks a piece.

not knocking the shirt at all, i just dont see how they can just charge you what they want, and it costs more than the shirt does.

weak.

fuck customs.

Ash@phpFX 03-16-2004 06:51 PM

thats really fucked up, in australia i dont think we get charged on anything under $1k

reynold 03-16-2004 07:19 PM

be a good person!!

WiredGuy 03-16-2004 07:21 PM

it's random too, most tshirts and gifts come right through the border without a problem. I even had electronics shipped here and got in no problem. And one time I got charged for a tshirt or a bottle of greygoose. It's all random and depends on the customs agent.

foolio 03-16-2004 07:37 PM

how do they tax for a gift? Was it not marked as a gift?

yep, they must "profile" the packages

so much for NAFTA and free trade... what ever happened to that?

raster 03-16-2004 09:49 PM

Duty? Were the shirts going across the border?

Depends who's minding the store I guess. A friend bought a laptop DVD Drive from the US today, no duty, but $22 in postage.
