authentication issues - PLEASE READ
 

We use referrer based authentication for a few sections of our sites. We have recently found that some proxies and many personal firewalls are stripping the referrer. Has anyone found a quick fix or an easy way to get around this? I imagine that streaming video sites or sites that incorporate streaming video would be most affected.

Use a key registration system. Hit the page, generates a key within the URL.

This is the best way to go, I had to program it for the netvideogirls plugin because of the Referer spooffing software that was coming out!

Whats to stop people from posting your links around then?

The "key" should be time sensitive at least. If you're really paranoid make the key be based in part on their ip address and user-agent hahahahahahahaha

So what about situations when you have access to streaming video services and the only way they authenticate is via http_referrer?
