Convicted felon Martha Stewart resigns

from her own company.

linkage

Martha Stewart, convicted of lying to the government last week, resigned from her company's board on Monday.

NEW YORK - Martha Stewart resigned Monday from the board and as chief creative officer of the media empire she built, a little more than a week after she was convicted of lying to federal investigators related to a 2001 stock sale.

Stewart, who is the company?s largest shareholder, had been expected to relinquish her board seat, but possibly keep some creative non-officer role. Had she not stepped down, her departure from the board and any executive position would likely have been forced by the Securities and Exchange Commission, given that she is a convicted felon.

I was laughing at the concept, not making a statement.

How many felons in this country, REALLY own companies?

More than 2 thats for sure.

she's supposed to be sentenced in June.... I wonder if she'll get a slap on the wrist, or be roomin' in a cold gray cell with a new girlfriend.

OldJeff 03-15-2004 11:27 AM

This verdict is a clear indication of what is wrong with the US legal system.

Since the Judge threw out the SEC fraud charges there is no legal basis for her to be charged with lying about it, she couldn't have lied to cover up illegal actions that never occured.

She will win the appeal.

I guess this is what you get when you leave legal decisions to 12 nitwits too stupid to get out of Jury duty.

12 losers looking to slap someone that has succeded, class envy at it's finest.

Thats exactly what this case was about. Giving the poor a chance to strike back at the rich. I hear they requested the right to tar and feather her, but that might just be a rumor.

I'm not convinced that it was.... did you watch any of the interviews with the jury after the fact? They all like Martha Stewart. No one there was hating on her unfairly and they all said it was a tough decision to "convict Martha Stewart". They all buy her products, watch her shows, read her magazines..... if the jury was biased toward any side, it was in her favor.

Are you familiar with any if anything that Martha Stewart has done?

She wasnt born rich, she was selling cookies at a table and started from that.

Knock the case all you want, but dont say this is rich against the poor, when its clearly just envy from the poor.

Martha was born as poor as most of us on the board, she just didnt sit around being jealous of other people who DID have money, and got off her ass and made some,

Cant really bash that.

From selling cookies by the bag to being one of the richest women alive in any lifetime is an accomplishment.

jscott 03-15-2004 11:36 AM

yea but what she has done carries a maximum 20years in jail, she supposedly is only gonna serve 1 year, she really cant complain either

Amputate Your Head 03-15-2004 11:39 AM

plus, whether they threw out the SEC charge or not, you know she's as guilty as they come. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that she was tipped about that stock. Hell the other guy freakin' admitted it.

OldJeff 03-15-2004 11:51 AM

Guilty of anything or not, without the SEC fraud, the other charges do not have LEGAL grounds.

I have no idea if she did it or not, I really couldn't care less.

What I do care about is the fact that the LEGAL issues are so screwed up

ehh... federal prison, she will have a multi roomed cell to herself with amenities.

not to mention, she will be the most popular cook in the house.

xdcdave 03-15-2004 12:00 PM

All over a possable $40,000 fucking dollar loss. That is so sad. :(

Doctor Dre 03-15-2004 12:02 PM

Seriously if she get out of it I don't care but neither if she goes in jail !
