mobile sms messaging: do you use it often?

and what is your location??

Its strange: in europe its like communication method #1..
i think it beats email. But in the US it virtually unused..

How come?

Manowar 03-15-2004 09:45 AM

I live in the UK

everyone over here does it , it beats email because 99% of people have phones and SMS is instant and cheaper than a usual phone call

Addam - RichRealm 03-15-2004 09:55 AM

SMS is crazy over here! (UK)

dunefield 03-15-2004 09:55 AM

yeah here in australia too... lots of people use sms's... i find it more convenient if you really don't need to talk to someone and just need to give them info... like an address or a phone no.

4Pics 03-15-2004 09:56 AM

it's expected to be grow in heaps in bounds this year in the US.

sweandy 03-15-2004 09:57 AM

Fuck i almost never use sms. 1 Sms last month. I'm feeling old for this new hype thing. I'm 25 :thumbsup

Paul 03-15-2004 10:01 AM

Its very popular in the UK, I suppose people use it so much because its so useful if your sending someone info only a few lines long and its cheap (much cheaper than a mobile phone call)

FUCKuPAYme 03-15-2004 10:05 AM

Its very popular in the hip hop scene to SMS

zentz 03-15-2004 10:13 AM

someone has texted me off it before, maybe - you get a lot of problems using it frequently though

macker 03-15-2004 11:37 AM

everyday - se asia

Cory W 03-15-2004 11:37 AM

I do not like to be text messaged.

It takes me way to long to type into my number pad on my phone. I would just assume call someone.

well?

Rorschach 03-15-2004 02:29 PM

It's enormously popular here in New Zealand, everyone has a cell phone and everyone under the age of 40 uses text messages. It's a whole other realm of communication. I personally dislike them for the most part, although they can be useful sometimes.

Doctor Dre 03-15-2004 02:30 PM

I use them sometimes ... I don't like typing on my cell phone tough I have to buy myself a 2way !

hoe_vender 03-15-2004 03:56 PM

sometimes yes

radical 03-15-2004 03:59 PM

Yep evry one uses it here in Scotland!! :thumbsup

rjstar 03-15-2004 04:24 PM

it used every day regularly by everyone i know.

Pun 03-15-2004 04:28 PM

I live in the US, and I use it maybe a couple times a week. I don't have a special phone with the keyboards (i.e. T-Mobile sidekick) so typing just isn't convenient for me. I'd rather pay the 20c and make the one minute call to give whatever information I need to give.

Roger 03-15-2004 04:29 PM

We have the internet and we use emails. sms what for? It takes forever to type something and the phone's screen is tiny. I really don't see the use.

pornoshare 03-15-2004 04:32 PM

Its huge here in Australia. Every 14 year old kid in Australia has a phone and uses SMS every day. The penetration of mobile/cell phones in the states is very small compared to rest the of world due to network incompatibilited and basically because a lot of providers chose a shit network other than GSM.

do you also make 1 minutes call to ppl you haven;t seen since 6 months...?
a SMS saying "hi, what's up? are u alive" is more convenient :thumbsup

hova 03-16-2004 02:03 AM

I use it a lot, like 20 times a day. Its just easy and cheap

Mr. Marks 03-16-2004 03:10 AM

SMS and MMS are frequently used in the Phiippines. Almost everyone has a mobile phone.

arial 03-16-2004 03:12 AM

Yup, I use it all the time. I can almost type as fast on my phone as I can on the computer. Craziness!

michel 03-16-2004 03:15 AM

Sms is big here in The Netherlands.

I used to "sms" a lot, but since my gf moved in with me, I don't use it that much anymore:)

eiht_98 03-16-2004 03:30 AM

using it every day...95% of the population has a mobile here (Slovenia)

=^..^= 03-16-2004 04:01 AM

here in Austrlia SMS is off it's head
teenage girls 14 years old are averaging $400 a month SMS bills

I dont see the point in it most of time

figure this:

by my estimation about 80% of SMS messages are sent saying less than 10 words.
Now - that will cost you 20 cents.

BUT if you CALL the person and have your phone contracted for per second billing - you can SAY it faster and cheaper than you can SMS it.

I know one girl who sends One word SMS's all day.
just saing "yes" or no" or "when" and "where"

By time she has a full sentance it's cost her $5 and she could have spoken it in less than 30 seconds and paid .45 cents

I wish I owned a phone network
