mobile sms messaging: do you use it often?
and what is your location??
Its strange: in europe its like communication method #1.. i think it beats email. But in the US it virtually unused.. How come? |
I live in the UK
everyone over here does it , it beats email because 99% of people have phones and SMS is instant and cheaper than a usual phone call |
SMS is crazy over here! (UK)
yeah here in australia too... lots of people use sms's... i find it more convenient if you really don't need to talk to someone and just need to give them info... like an address or a phone no.
it's expected to be grow in heaps in bounds this year in the US.
Fuck i almost never use sms. 1 Sms last month. I'm feeling old for this new hype thing. I'm 25 :thumbsup
Its very popular in the UK, I suppose people use it so much because its so useful if your sending someone info only a few lines long and its cheap (much cheaper than a mobile phone call)
Its very popular in the hip hop scene to SMS

I do not like to be text messaged.
It takes me way to long to type into my number pad on my phone. I would just assume call someone. |

well?

It's enormously popular here in New Zealand, everyone has a cell phone and everyone under the age of 40 uses text messages. It's a whole other realm of communication. I personally dislike them for the most part, although they can be useful sometimes.
I use them sometimes ... I don't like typing on my cell phone tough I have to buy myself a 2way !
sometimes yes
Yep evry one uses it here in Scotland!! :thumbsup
Yeah UK here and use it shitloads.

it used every day regularly by everyone i know.
I live in the US, and I use it maybe a couple times a week. I don't have a special phone with the keyboards (i.e. T-Mobile sidekick) so typing just isn't convenient for me. I'd rather pay the 20c and make the one minute call to give whatever information I need to give.

We have the internet and we use emails. sms what for? It takes forever to type something and the phone's screen is tiny. I really don't see the use.
Its huge here in Australia. Every 14 year old kid in Australia has a phone and uses SMS every day. The penetration of mobile/cell phones in the states is very small compared to rest the of world due to network incompatibilited and basically because a lot of providers chose a shit network other than GSM.

a SMS saying "hi, what's up? are u alive" is more convenient :thumbsup |
I use it a lot, like 20 times a day. Its just easy and cheap
SMS and MMS are frequently used in the Phiippines. Almost everyone has a mobile phone.
Yup, I use it all the time. I can almost type as fast on my phone as I can on the computer. Craziness!
Sms is big here in The Netherlands.
I used to "sms" a lot, but since my gf moved in with me, I don't use it that much anymore:) |
using it every day...95% of the population has a mobile here (Slovenia)
here in Austrlia SMS is off it's head
teenage girls 14 years old are averaging $400 a month SMS bills I dont see the point in it most of time figure this: by my estimation about 80% of SMS messages are sent saying less than 10 words. Now - that will cost you 20 cents. BUT if you CALL the person and have your phone contracted for per second billing - you can SAY it faster and cheaper than you can SMS it. I know one girl who sends One word SMS's all day. just saing "yes" or no" or "when" and "where" By time she has a full sentance it's cost her $5 and she could have spoken it in less than 30 seconds and paid .45 cents I wish I owned a phone network |
