Dogs That Eat Poo, What To Do?
 

One of my dogs loves poo, it is really gross. I have tried Deter and also yogurt but nothing has helped. Any suggestions?

I know it sounds sick, but put a little bit of something sweet on his dog food, or buy a better brand of dog food.

Dogs sometimes eat it because it tastes better than the dog food.

coprophagia is the term.. it's not that uncommon. pick it up as soon as he goes. do a google search for remedies.

Does it eat yours? Or from other dogs? If its yours you should stop shitting in the living room, and do it somewhere the doggie doesn't go. If it is the poo from other dogs.............I have no idea what to do

bahahaha. funny stuff. one of my mates dogs sometimes eats shit literally. theres not much u can do about it. obviously it tastes pretty damn good.

you can buy a spray at your local pet store - forget what its called

you spray it on the shit and the shit tastes really bad to them...

they will stop eating it.

Get a blood test and see if he is deficient in something, change him up to a decent quality food (no store brands) and give him a multi-vitamin for dogs...

Eating their own poop is almost always a signt that they are lacking something in their diet, which is why they eay their own poop. That way they have a chance to digest any nutrients they missed the first time...

Let him eat it, then you wont have to clean it up.

Bring him to the vet! Poor dog!

You can also train him where to poop, and then thow away his waste immediately. So that he will know that it's not supposed to be eaten.

I have a dog that does this to his own shit, AND he digs around in the cats litter box, for any tasty morsels in there too. Great dog, but soo fucking gross sometimes.

my dog only eats poo when its frozen...poopsicle? actually he spits it out after a while, probably when he realizes what it is:)

He has already been to the vet several times. The suggested the Deter pills which did not work. They also said he is on very good dog food and his nutrition is great. They said there was not much else I could do. I try to keep the poo cleaned up as much as possible but he likes it freshly squeezed and hot.

when he eats it blast him in the mouth with bitter apple spray. I taught my dogs to not bark when somebody knocks on the door with that shit.

Trust me, don't get any on your hands. I did and didn't notice it and picked something out of my teeth. I nearly fucking barfed all over the place.

There is also a pill you can add to the dogs food that will make the poo taste a LOT worse for him and I have found that this works.

But you have to keep dosing the dog because it seems once they get an appetite for shit it tends to last unfortunately.

I had the same problem with anb alsation I had!! I'm trying to remember what the vet said to stick in his food!! geeeeez getting old and my memory is going!! If I remember I'll post it :thumbsup

My dog used to eat our wood fence so we got this special spray at a pet store that tastes horrible and associates the bad taste with anything your dog likes to eat....I don't know if this will work with shit though since it's allready gotta taste pretty bad: it's shit lol

We have a dog that does the same thing! We have tried everything....deter, for-bid, tobasco, meat tenderizer, vegtable protein, chaning her food, vitamins, pineapple and nothing works. She is just a poo eater. So we gave in and just let her eat it, then she would puke it up at about 3 am....not pleasant to wake up to. So now we just pick up right after, it sucks. But it is either then or at 3 in the morn. The vet said she would grow out of it, but our dog is 5 and still loves the poo. Maybe if yours is a pup he/she will grow out of it. We even tried a shock collar but nothing has worked for us. Good luck. There is nothing worse than a burp from the dog right after the gourmet meal! GROSS!

dogs will eat mostly cat poo as an adition on their minreals. Get them miinerals etc. Change the food your giving.

I am actively seeking a solution for this as well. My little girl eats her poo and I'm trying to find ways to stop this. The vet suggested Adolfs Meat Tenderizer in the food, but she doesnt seem to mind it. :(
