Going to Phuket for a month
 

I'm heading to Phuket, Thailand for a few weeks. If anyone could recommend a place to find a nice, cheap, 3 room apartment somewhere in Phuket.. that would be great.
And also, please fill me in on the must sees and nightlife in the area.
How's the weather like in April/May?

weather there in april/may is pretty well

take a hotel just outside patong. it's much cheaper then in patong. My hotel was Ocean Resort about 10/15 min drive from the hotel to Patong beach

If you want 1 awesome night go to Starwars in Patong Beach, cost 200 Bath entree ( around $6 ) but you get 2 free drinks with it. It's a strip/porn club :Graucho

We rested a lot, did some scuba diving, Eva parasailed and we had a 3some or 4. Did a lot of shopping, don't take any clothes, and eat a lot of fish.

What's wrong with phuket?

Nothing, just that there are nicer places depends on what you want. We went to Kho Toa for diving.

If you are visiting Phuket for the nightlife then the only place to stay is Patong Beach. For an apartment try here and for a hotel so close to the action you can open your window and shout for a girl try here . The apartment is a two minute tuk tuk ride from the action and I would advise pre-booking. The hotel is opposite the starwar/world disco and you would probably be better just turning up for a room (cheaper). The starwar/world disco is closed at the moment due to refurbishment.

I wonder wether I can just go there without reservations, it's off season and I'm sure there are a lot of free rooms everywhere. I could probably get a good deal if I just show up there in person. What do you think?

What I'd really want is a 2-3 bedroom apartment on the beach somewhere within a 5-10 minute walk to Patong..

For a hotel you should be able to turn up but for the apartment you should pre book because apartment style accommodation on Patong beach is rare.

No that was the fishing boat, but as it was us and a Thai guy fishing we had lots of room. Pity was the big fish were not biting, those in the pictures were the biggest we caught, but had some fun. :)

apartment lodgings within Patong are few and far between, andyou might find yourself pretty dismayed when you actually get there and see the quality if you rent sight unseen... i live a few months out of each year in Patong and am pretty familiar w/ the town; unless your willing to lay out some serious cash to rent a high-end villa for the month your probably better off staying at a decent hotel somewhere near Soi Bangla (I'm sure Bangla is your main reason for visiting Patong!)... a buddy of mine runs a hotel close to Bangla if you need a referral or hookup, its only 18 units and since its the low season you can definitely get a cut rate for a months stay.

lot more to thailand than phuket. try to cover some ground and islands while you there. viva thailand.

just remembered the Soi SanSabai bungalows... this might be what your looking for, actual apartment/townhome type units for rent, and *extremely* close to the head of Soi Bangla... i have some friends at the management center so let me know if you need a referral... the pictures at this link will give you a good idea what most apartments are going to look like, and how they'll be furnished. if you want something more upscale you'll definitely be looking at a lot more money..! :)

I just got back from there.. great fun.. best time I had was on phi-phi though.. very beautiful there :)

if you have never dived go to one of the quickie diving schools in town and take a course, then do some shallow diving.

it will give you a new perspective on the world.

I definitely wanna scuba dive.. Haven't had the chance to do it. It's a whole other world down there, you can even get a glimpse of it just snorkeling.

How's surfing in Phuket?

theres about 75-80 units there, and the price varies by size and furnishings... i'll check w/ the manager and see whats available for you if i can get some dates for your stay in Patong, see if i can get any sort of break for you..

I'll be traveling bith a buddy, so we need a 2-3 room place. Very simple furnishing will do.. Nothing too fancy. We're pretty flexible, flying in to Bangkok 04/15.. I guess we would book the bungalow in Phuket sometime around the 20th and stay for like 30 days.
