BuyDomains.com -- ever bought a domain?

Ever bought a domain from buydomains.com?

There is one I've seen that has a "Buy it now" button on it...

It's fairly high dollar - I'm curious if they are trustworthy.

Odin88 03-13-2004 09:12 PM

They are wankers, but they are trustworthy.

Gator 03-13-2004 09:12 PM

I bought from them before. They are a good company.

goBigtime 03-13-2004 09:16 PM

Cool, thanks.

:thumbsup

Yes. They snatch up anything and everything and simply squat on it. I can understand snatching great domains when they drop, but they snatch any one word domain or anything even decent.

My parthner bough one for couple thousands from them a while ago ... Everything worked well

Odin88 03-13-2004 11:40 PM

btw, don't 'buy now' man, talk them down.

That's sort of what I was wondering.... what exactly do they do that's so evil? Register domains people drop?... lol maybe if the people paid attention to the 5-10 emails the registrar sends before they drop, then companies like buydomains wouldn't wind up with them. :2 cents:

My only concern with them is if they are honorable when you "buy it now" on one of their domains -- or if they will dick you around and try to sell it to you for more after you express interest enough to buy it for a high price.

yeah pretty much :) hate domain camping when someone could be doing something with it.. but as I've said.. i'd do the exact same thing in their place.. 'cept they should rent their domains out by month.. much more business sense

My history with domain brokers has been if you ask them about a domain, they raise the price on you. If I 'buy it now', I figure it's a done deal.

bhutocracy 03-13-2004 11:52 PM

most don't even use the typeins or anything. they're throwing money away.

It's a calculated risk for them. Each domain costs them $6/year or whatever they pay to "squat" on it. It's not free.

So I think there is a little more to what they do than just grabbing everything that drops that they can get their hands on.

thats true, but with a company like, the price is always so high that one or two sales covers all their registration for the year.

I know of a couple people who work Afternic pretty well and that's definitely the case. One person I've seen has ~4000 decent domains listed there & seems to sell about 2-5 a month in the $5000 range.

yeah that annoys me too actually. I've read they're developing some kind of PPC setup, as seems to be the vogue thing to do.

Their prices are insane in the membrane
