We found a lost dog wandering around... (pics)

I was taking photos on a hill near us and found this cute little dog wandering around... because he was in a nature reserve with fencing and a gate he was effectively trapped in. I don't know if he was dumped (he had a council ID tag but the idiots don't actually keep the data unless it's paid for - this one wasn't), or he was from around the area and he followed someone in.

This little guy 'adopted' me as his new master 30 seconds after I first saw him, but unfortunately we couldn't keep him... He's gone to the pound where he will be held for 8 days ( :( ) and then put up for adoption. If the owners don't claim him then I have no doubts he will find a new home immediately!

BTW, I figured from his size and the way he acts that he's probably still a puppy.

My wife would have loved to have kept him, and I was getting pretty fond of the little guy too... but we already have 2 cats, and our lease don't allow dogs. If he's going to grow to the size of a rot then our back yard wouldn't be able to fit him either. :)

I'll be showing his pic to a few of my friends today to see if they are interested, since he'll be up for adoption if the owners don't claim him...

Maskedman: he found an empty mcdonalds container with some grease embedded in the cardboard and he was almost ripping it apart. I think he must have been pretty hungry by the time we found him. I'm glad we did.

TweetyBird 03-13-2004 07:35 PM

hmm, I wonder who's dog it is ...

pushpills 03-13-2004 07:37 PM

isn't it held for 8 days then injected?

I'm not a dog guy so can you explain the ears clipping thing? Is it the folding/drooping, that is not natural?

Vitasoy 03-13-2004 07:37 PM

Awww, very cute dog indeed :)

McKracken 03-13-2004 07:38 PM

man i would take him no questions asked if i was near that town!!

by the looks it is a dog with lots of energy hehe like my own boxer!

Doctor Dre 03-13-2004 07:38 PM

Same here ... If I could have a dog I'd buy a huge mastiff. But the condo rules don't allow no dogs ... only my little cat that sit on my computer screen and try to catch my mouse all day.

Shut yer mouth Grogan, that is not going to happen! Elderly and sick dogs are put down immediately, often very young dogs are too unless a home carer can look after them until they are old enough to be given a permanent home.

This guy was none of the above so he will be up for adoption. We're in Australia BTW.

In the states, sad but true he'd be put down. I got my cat at about 6 months old and he was going to be put down that afternoon. There's just too many pets and not enough people to take care of them here.

There is still the chance he may be put down, IF he didn't find a new home - but do you think this cute little guy will be on display for more than a few hours before someone snaps him up? :) I am glad that he's cute, young and feisty for that very reason. I would have done the same thing for an adult or even elderly dog but the long term outlook may not have been so good.

fuelcell 03-13-2004 07:47 PM

Cute dog.

rowan 03-13-2004 08:45 PM

bump

What is ear clipping? I did a quick search on google but I couldn't find any detailed info on what the end result looks like, just a lot of people saying it's cruel. (It does sound cruel)

Argoz 03-13-2004 09:11 PM

hehe cute dog! :thumbsup

Furious_Male 03-13-2004 09:15 PM

Cute little fella. With his ears docked it was probably someone that thought they had a pure bred Doberman or something. Once he got a bit older and they realized he wasn't they dumped him.

That crap happens all the time. Its sad. I am sure the pound wont have a problem finding him a home.

They do that to Dobermans as well..so their ears stand up and not flop down

beemk 03-13-2004 09:16 PM

cute dog

So the tips of his ears should be resting on the side of his cheeks (straight down), rather than the front of his forehead (up, fold, down)?

I think his folded ears look really cute - they flap against his head when he runs - but if that's only because they've cut him then I am 110% against it.

I am pleased to say that he does have a full tail. :)

His ears should be straight up if they were done right. When the tips flop down they were either done incorrectly.. not allowed to heal properly or were snapped. Kids rough with pups can snap a dogs freshly docked ears. Once that cartilage is snapped it cant be fixed (to my knowledge).

Hot linken properly docked ears.

Good job rescuing the pup and I hope someone adopts him soon. If I was there, he would have a home in no time.

dig420 03-13-2004 10:19 PM

there's no reason to clip a dog's ears or cut off his tail, period.

if you're mutilating your dog for looks, you shouldn't have one.

I don't know about Oz, but here in NZ it's actually really difficult to get a dog adopted from the pound. The most adorable tiny puppy turned up on our doorstep, starving and cold in the rain, so we took it in, fed it etc. We already have a young dog so we couldn't keep it. The SPCA wouldn't take it because it wasn't sick or injured, and the pound said they'd keep it for a week and then it would be killed if no one took it, and they said the chances of adoption were slim to none, especially for a mongrel. In the end we just gave him away to a nice family, free to a good home in the paper - there was no way I was going to let the little guy die.

Good on you for helping it out. :)

Kicker 03-13-2004 10:29 PM

it's good of you to help the little guy out... I believe what comes around goes around in this world and now you have a good thing coming your way :thumbsup

raster 03-13-2004 11:54 PM

Cute pup, sure he'll get a home

chupachups 03-14-2004 12:11 AM

Cute!

Ricky Dynamite 03-14-2004 12:11 AM

Awesome puppy.

I have a pure-bred AKC German Shepard. Ears stood up properly on their own, no need for vet's to cut her open. There's no need to cut anything on a dog for looks. That's bullshit.

Axeman 03-14-2004 12:12 AM

that puppy is adorable

Nice photos :)

alias 03-14-2004 10:44 AM

what are you a faggot?

why take a dog to the pound?

You need to watch the puppy kill box movie!

Piles of dogs gassed to death in a dumpster which is then opened and more puppies thrown in on top of their dead friends.

Cries of terror.. .

Thank you for your contribution to this merciless decimation! :boid :boid :boid

Lykos 03-14-2004 12:31 PM

Cool:thumbsup

DatingGold 03-14-2004 12:36 PM

Hate to tell you but they lied.. after 8 days they put him to sleep and toss him in a dumpster

dig420 03-14-2004 01:18 PM

Most shelters try very hard to place every animal they get that is socialized enough to be placed, but it's a very hard job because of all the dirtball ignorant fucks out there who are too lazy to spay their dogs and cats. They just get overwhelmed.

Reak 03-14-2004 01:20 PM

i would keep him, cute doggie dog ! :Graucho

Mr. Marks 03-15-2004 11:21 PM

Poor dog, his family must be missing him so much.

reynold 03-15-2004 11:30 PM

Cuddly dog! if he must be missing his family, too!
