There was one type of monitor produced in the 70's or 80's .. I can't remember who made it or the name, maybe someone else can help out here .. but it was possible via software to compress the contents of the screen into one pixel .. which created a super hot white ray that would heat the inside of the monitor causing the air to expand and when the ray finally melted through the glass the monitor would explode.

Thus it was possible to write a virus that would kill users of this computer.

Wow, that sounds a little dangerous... glad my monitor is post 1980's.
