What MiniDV do you use to shoot content?
 

I'm looking to purchase two new MiniDV's.... I've pretty much narrowed down my choices to the Panasonic DVX100A and the Canon XL1...they are both around the same price range...

Have any of you guys used one or the other? What do you think of them? Quality, color, features, sound, etc... Any help would be awesome!

We have been using the Canon XL-1s for about two years and love it.

You need Sony VX2100... nothing more, nothing less.

DVX100 is fancy with its non-interlaced formats - 24p and 30p but hey, you'll be shooting porn, right? DVX100 has been developed for the stupid fucks who think they'll shoot cheap at 24p and they blow it up to 35 mm so it can be distributed to cinemas. Do you need that kinda stuff? I don't think so - so why pay for it?

Canon XL1S ... I know, it's a pretty good camera overall - good controls and the lens can be removed and replaced with a wideangle (3X) one so you can get up close and personal.
Yet, this camera is bulky and heavy - not comfortable at all if you need those close-up shots. Second, the 3X lens is $1200+. Enough said.

Enter Sony VX2100. Superb controls, best resolution (as in more pixels), best low-light capabilities, wide angle adaptor ($150-300) for closeup shots, best battery life (9 hours!). This camera is my BABY!

It would cost you $2200-2400 compared to $3500 for DVX100 and $3000 (+ $1200 lens) for Canon XL1S.
