ARS Selling Webmaster Emails?
 

Yeah, here goes today's drama. I like ARS, have used them for years but this smells really bad. A little bird told me that this morning emails started appearing at an email addy used only to sign up with ARS' stuff.

Here are but a few examples:

adrev@ is an email used exclusively for ARS the same as is done for all sponsors. Helps to know who the fuckers are.

you know what, it doesnt prove anything, theres ways to create email lists with domains and words. before I ever got my email into any form I was already getting spam from one guy (Walt Addams Inc)...

I dont say they didnt sell it, I'm just saying its possible you got bulk mailed.

no one even believes this method anymore.

they will say

"oh it wasnt us, that was spoofed" and that will be all.

No one really cares anymore.

Kinda looks the same but the email it was sent too is not ARS specific; only a few sponsors have it though.

Yeah nothing proves anything LOL. I'm sure the spammers just love mailing to "adrev" at anything. Just like webmaster@ makes them a ton of joins too.

What virus? No one has that address in their system but ARS. You mean to tell me their backend servers got sick and started puking virus emails? :1orglaugh

Do you really think ARS is dumb enough to send out emails w/ that subject? Or even sell their list to someone who would send an email w/ that subject? Come on, people.

Dude, the point is not who they might have sold the list to, it's the mere fact that they might have sold it that irks me.

why would a guy buying a webmaster list from ARS try to sell you rape porn and shocking videos. Doesn't make any sense to me.

ARS no longer have any email address of mine, but a lot of other sponsors have been hitting me with crap/selling my email it seems. I had one account several months.. no spam at all until i joined up with a few sponsors.

Why would ARS let it be known to anyone ( even customers )that they(ARS) were selling lists?

Why would anyone try to spam webmaster@porndomain thousands of times a day too? That doesn't make sense but it sure as hell happens too.

I don't think ARS will ever sell webmaster e-mails. Their rep is pretty good :)

cause they took it from porndomain website with a program called email harvestor wich spiders websites for e-mails. Again that is bulk mailing.

you have any idea how much a list of webmasters from ARS could be worth? Someone buying this knows more then rape porn conversions.

Yeah, I know how harvesting works. I also know about cleaning lists which these guys seem to miss on a regular basis.

Maybe it was a test mailing to see if the list was worth anything :Graucho

The only emails we send out are for webmaster opt in newsletters.

You should find where the email came from, report the spam, find the affiliate and affiliate company that the links in the email go to and take it from there.

if I bought a webmaster list rom ARS, I wouldnt wonder if its worth anything.

We don't sell mailing lists for webmasters. What is the point of that? Why would we dilute our own webmaster base with competitive programs / opportunities. Worse yet, why would we sell it to someone who is going to mail you porn offerings? As some of you have suggested this was our response, I'm sure if you took just a few minutes to logically think about it, it would NOT be in our best interest.

No, it doesn't make sense Marc, but neither does it make sense that spam is arriving at an email address that's no public and that was ONLY ever used to join your webmaster program. I mean really, does "adrev" sound like a common address that people would blindly send spam to? Fire anyone lately?

all sponsors are honest, dont shave, dont sell your contact info ect, dont spam you, you must be confused.

but if it happens its either a glitch or the rogue designer did it.

Can't wait for the next edition of Cluedo to hit the streets - its going to have a new character - the dreaded Rogue Designer who'll do it with a glitch in the computer room.

I get like 20 daily emails that are spam. I never signup for any special list other than sponsor sites and adult boards. So someone is the bad guy here

Yeah I hear ya, but this is different. I get a shitload of spam daily too, to all sorts of addresses but this is one address that has never been published anywhere or used for any purpose other than to sign up for one sponsor account.
