Do you make up fantasy names & personas for your models & do your models use them?
So I've met a lot of people on here who write adult internet copy. As I understand it, their job is to make up a character to go with erotic photos and video of a girl. The images of the girl just illustrate the backstory the copy writer comes up with knowing nothing about the actual girl. Please let me know if there are important details I'm missing on this.
I frequently come up with a name for one of my models or pick which of many names she has used will be the one popularized. I give only real characteristics of my models on my sites, although of course the positives are what I emphasize. I tend to get press coverage for my models, so the characteristics I emphasize are the ones remembered and the name I use tends to be the one a stranger will call them at a nightclub. Sometimes the girl will then start using this name in other work. In one case, I later had to deal with a model complaining that I was profitting from her name. There is at least one pen and ink artist who regularly creates merch based on my photos of my models. I've never tried to keep what a girl does for Blue Blood separate from her other accomplishments. I will promote a model's band, clothing company, etc. Is this a good idea? I came into this business in print where there really was no money involved and I was interested only in what was real. But now that, with the internet, there is money involved, it seems like a lot of weird issues come up where someone can come back years later and complain about a usage they loved at the time, when I'm keeping it real as it were. What do people here see as potential legal problems with writing copy which really is based on the actual person? It seems like writing copy which is true and respectful and leaves out anything unflattering or unattractive would be best, but I think there may be hidden problems there I did not think of in a different business environment. Suggestions on how to be legally covered? |
depends on the medium....
if it's site copy, fuck it.... I invent whatever the fuck comes to mind.... they signed their rights away with the shoot contract. |
I don't think using their real names is a good idea. If I'd be a model I wouldn't want everybody on the net to be able to stalk me ... if that's what you mean . Even strippers don't use their real name

I used to make up names for models because they were too thick to make good ones up for themselves.
Myself I never had to worry anyone who's ever seen my passport knows my name IS Kitty. There was never any need to change it. As for the model who bitched about you "profiting from Her name".. was it her actual real name? if not tell her to go jump . It's HER problem if she decided to be in porn! What we used to do was assign a girl a stage name at her first shoot and always use that name from then on - ot was on every model release i believe that to this day if you buy content from sexcontents you have to use the assigned name for the model when putting her content into a site |
