what do u think of the US prison system
I've been seeing a lot on the news about people indicted/convicted - Martha Stewart/Jamaal Lewis.
I feel a lot of the offenses don't deserve the penalties that are given. Take Martha for example - her insider trading saved her ~60k - between the trial and publicity, she's lost millions, and now experts say she will face 1 year in jail roughly. Jamall Lewis, just got indicted for CONSPIRING to buy 5 kilos of cocaine 3 YEARS AGO - what took 3 years to prosecute, you think someone saw the file and wanted to make a name for themselves. or what about the 3 strike laws and people getting sent to jail for life for being caught with marijuana, or other minor things... A lot of stuff is fucked up with our criminal system, cops have too much power, and are just looking to send people away in many places of the country.. and then you have guys like OJ where the evidence and general consensus say he was guilty for MURDER, yet he got off based on many facts that the police department was racist, etc. in my opinion, you shouldn't go to jail unless you comitt a violent crime, dealing with a high volume of drugs, or other acts that most people would deem deserving of jail time.. - how about a VOTING system for penalties, instead of legislators making harsher and harsher punishments to make them look tough.. what are your thoughts |
I'd say that life sentences for all crimes would make the world a safer place.

a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there

in countries where the crime penalties are less, they have less crime, how about that... |
they suck, but i dont know if I could do any better. Maybe put them on the front line in countries we want to invade and if they live they are free?

Far to many drug offenders in jail for too long clogging up the system and cash.

probably the biggest problem with our system, if someone wants to do drugs and fuck up their own body - let them. Like i said, selling is one thing, using is another - send them to rehab, fine their ass, but sending them to jail costs taxpayers along with the users. |

Go to places like the mid-east where they cut off hands and have public executions . . . that is a pretty good deterrent |

proven by less numbers per area / 1000 people, etc.. like less murders per population, less burglaries, etc. go visit the mideast, and wear your gold jewelry out, tell me if you feel safe. of if you feel safer in say - the netherlands. |

I have on a few occasions and felt VERY safe... PS: the US prison system is almost as bad as the people they house... they are party to the crimes created on the inside, as they do NOT stop the shit... think of if this way....if you sent your kids to a day care, and while there they were doing drugs or raping eachother, would you blame the kids only or ALSO hold the adults that were suposed to be IN CONTROL responsible? I consider prisons and people that send people there, rapists and drug pushers by-proxy...if they can't control them and admit to this FAILURE, that we (tax payers) pay for...then just lock them up 24/7 in lockdown and call it a day...spend that gaurd money on someting more useful, like subscriptions to playboy and lube...or education, which has been show to be the GREATEST influence on reducing recidivism... another point I feel strongly about: There are FAR too many non-violent offenders in prison for lame shit, where they could be better put to use in home-lockup and working off their debt on the state & federal roads, facilities, etc... |
We have death penalty in our country. But even if we have death penalty here, we still have a lot of crimes going on in here. Suffice it to say that harsher punishment would not really create less crimes.
|
I think all those fuckers should die. The prison system is too easy for most convicted criminals. Murderers, rapists, and repeat offenders all deserve death. They are a waste of space, and contribute nothing to society. The only thing they do is cost taxpayers money.
|
I never been there so I don't know ...
What I think about the criminal system ? I'm not living in your country but I think the 3 strikes is kinda stupid for little things like pot . And there is too much gray zone. |
totalitarian at best
|
u.s. prisons is BIG business..80% of federal inmates are 1st time non-violent offenders...they have some shit call UNICOR that control the 'employment...they have imates doing cumsoter service calls, and whole bunch of shit...all for less than minimum wage..prison is to warehouse, becasue if you come out of prison with vilable skills you won't re-offend..my motto is have a lawyer before you do dirt, then you won't see no time :glugglug
|
I hear that it's very cool place i want to visit it :)
|
The US Justice system and prison system are a big business. Especially for lawyers who make a killing from it being just the way it is - all fucked up.

non-repeat offernders who don't go to white collar prison are fucked. a friend of mine was locked up for one year. it was a public nuisance thing. he was raped, he was beaten - very regularly - it took a year after he got out before he even began to function again. he basically hid in a room for the first six months after he got out and didn't talk to anyone.
someone who had a joint in the wrong place, wrong time can come out totally warped. my drummer knows two guys who went in minor offenders and came out full fledged gang members, much more criminal than they ever were before. if you want people to actually rehabilitate, having them live in terror, or in a situation where they MUST join a gang, isn't the way to accomplish this. give someone something to live for and they'll do a lot to keep it - take everything they live for away and what do they have to lose? |
