SigMonkey 1.2 - several improvements

This is the third version in two days, but I hope that's alright. Dramatic improvements happened every time. I originally wrote it just to kill 5 minutes any way.

Improvements for 1.2:
- Uses a seperate file (sig.dat) for storage of data (thanks to - Jesus Christ - for info about CPU load being way too high on some servers with the old system)
- Format for click-tracking is now just sig.php?URL instead of sig.php?url=URL
- Width changed to 468 to fit nicely underneath banners
- All the three main chunks of data are completely independant so that they can be edited without pushing the position of other chunks
- Code in general has been optimized

As always, the scripts notes when it is first started and resets itself the same time next month. Thus, it would be a good idea to reset it right after the next sig market so that potential sig buyers don't have to look at the "since" date to estimate how much exposure your sig gets during future sig markets (since they will be able to see a full month's data).

Instructions are in sig.php within the zip.
http://www.hobbyism.com/friends/sigmonkey1.2.zip
Remember to CHMOD sig.dat liberally (777) or SigMonkey will not be able to log data at all, and it stands still at a 1 view count.

This will probably be the last "public" version unless someone comes up with a very good improvement for it.

Thanks for your time.

Cool. :) Thanks for the input on the CPU load.

I accept Jesus into my heart as the lord of my life. :1orglaugh

Any chance you can do

March - Views = 50 Clicks = 50
April - Views = 50 Clicks = 50

so it wont erase the months? and you could see month to month views/clicks?

Heck there is even doing a variable for board, so you can see gfy total vs other totals but maybe that is getting too complicated?

candyflip 03-08-2004 05:08 PM

Thanks Monkey. I'll have to upgrade in a little bit.

:thumbsup

BradM 03-08-2004 05:14 PM

I don't want to upgrade and lose mah views. ;)
Besides I am on a virtual account at ipowerweb. So they can suck up the CPU useage.

Doctor Dre 03-08-2004 05:26 PM

Just started using it . I hope it works well

skillfull 03-08-2004 05:38 PM

nice stuff ;)

Doctor Dre 03-08-2004 05:39 PM

hrmm I think there is a bug . The script just reset himself 2 minutse ago ... fucked up shit.

Nysus 03-08-2004 05:46 PM

Is the data encrypted? Otherwise I can give myself 1,000,000 pageviews and 50,000 clicks.

Cheers,
Matt

Nop it's not :(

Doctor Dre 03-08-2004 06:31 PM

It reset every 30 mins or so here . I installed it at 19:20, it reset at 19:37 and right now it just reset again

It resets either when uploading the db over again, or when a month worth of seconds have passed since the current $started.

And your sig isn't reset, it's at 446. :eek7

It isn't. Since the data is under your own control, there is no way to make it impossible for you to manipulate it, and if I tried to make it hard, that would cause problems in that some sponsors would trust SigMonkey data to a large enough extent to make it profitable for scammers to manipulate their counts (hitbots, et cetera).

SigMonkey sig data is as trustworthy as the sig owner in other words.

SABAI 03-08-2004 06:49 PM

it is nonetheless a handy little piece of script

thanks monkey:thumbsup

SABAI 03-08-2004 06:52 PM

btw would it be possible to separate views from different board so each sig on each board shows only the views from the board it is viewed on?

Yep, use several sigmonkeys, one for each board. lol

But I can write a variation that has several databases, and logs to gfy.dat when viewer referrer is from GoFuckYourSelf.com, and so forth with other boards, and then show the counts for the different boards in the sigmonkey.

I can't now though, I need to get some sleep. :xomunch

SABAI 03-08-2004 07:16 PM

sounds good tho

have a good sleep:thumbsup

If that is the case, then something must be abnormal about your server's clock, although I see over 4,5k views on your sigmonkey. I am hitting you up on ICQ, I am going to write a debug version for you that keeps a log over the time and the reason why it resets.

I've hit you up on ICQ. I want you to try a debug version. If your server is unable to run this I will offer to host a sigmonkey for you.
