The Passion of The Christ
Hey I went to see the Mel Gibson movie the Passion of the Christ,
If you don't know anything about the Bible, the movie doesn't clarify anything. It was a blood bath and a lesson in history on how cruel Caucasians have been to themselves and other. Has anyone else seen it? What do you think? |
Havent seen it but looking forward to watching it sometime this week.

on how he was condemned to crucifiction First to the romans, then to King Jerod, then back to the romans. I went with a few people from other religions, and they felt anger towards the jewish people for pushing him to be killed. remember the roman stating you welcomed this man 5 days ago and now you want him to die? look past all the blood and torture you will see the story |
saw it last nite... pretty graphic. my girlfriend had her head buried in my shoulder half the movie.
if you go see it... notice what happens when you walk out. everyone's dead quiet. |

Well...I say it succeeded in being, as one reviewer called it, "The Jesus Chainsaw Massacre." The most violent movie I've ever seen - and I'd say it was gratuitous in more than one area. Lots of Evil-Dead-2 special effects were just bizarrely out of place, and there was almost no character development except Pilate (who everyone says was portrayed exactly the opposite of how he was).
If they're trying to convert people, I think a lot of more moderate Christians and non-believers - and especially the ten-year-old kids the churches are dragging to see it - will be given a slight case of post-traumatic stress disorder. None of the reasoning for what has to be the most brutal, graphic, realistic, and personal violence I've ever seen on film is there. Just a guy who designed the dinette set. The evil person in the black cape wandering around the movie is more like something out of LOTR. I couldn't believe Gibson was involved in this movie, it had such a real potential to do something very meaningful, and blew it. That said, I am probably the least religious person you'll meet and I understood the plot lines only because I've found other attempts - more successful ones like Jesus Christ Superstar - to be much clearer and capable of delivering the "message." The people I was with were completely befuddled. There simply is not enough plot there to give people an understanding of what's happening, and why it's happening. The best review I saw summed it up perfectly - the only way to promote a religion based on kindness and love these days is apparently to turn it into a slasher flick. Most ironically, the starkest, and in fact only message to take away from it, just like you said, was that people are basically horrible creatures who will do anything to one another to get their goals. I don't disagree with that as a generalization, and of course there are exceptions, but as the protagonist of L'Etranger said after being convicted for not crying at his mother's wedding (a la Martha Stewart conviction): "I had but one wish, and that was for this crowd to great with cries of hatred at my execution." (something like that) -doug |

I've seen it 2 hours ago, pirate copy (I'm in europe)
The focus is on Jesus's body. A bloodbath. Big, bang, bum and again. Its only Mel's view. I expected to see a religious movie NOT this kind of movie. If you can promote christian values by showing a beaten body, showing how stupid people are (welcoming Jesus one day, kill him the other) then I again doubt it. The film lacks in ideeas. If Mel wanted us to see the last moments of Christ and NOTHING ELSE, then it's best movie ever made about that story. If you want to hear, learn and meditate about Jesus teachings, then maybe you can spot maximum 4 minutes in almost 2 hours. And when you finally see them .... BANG! BUM! here we go again... Too much violence and some point you start to belive the opposite. Waaaay to much violence on screen and nothing else... Artistic movie? If RAW violence can be artistic, yes. Some good moments: Judas madness, Satan personalisation and appereance, the love of Mary (as a mother) for Jesus... and that's all. About the jews. How can jews appear good in a movie about Jesus. They simply can't, or they wanna rewrite history. It's like you make a film about jews and the Nazis is the good person. Impossible. But looks like jews don't know how to lose. Too bad for them. Conclusion: it has some good moments, but I think it's way overrated -> 6/10 maximum from me. Dissapointment. |
Jesus lived and pornography is BAD. Face it people, you are all going to hell.
|
Isnt Mel Gibson Jewish?
|
I saw it, and coming from a christian background I can say the movie is meaningless. There's no point in seeing it, no benefit. Basically you see Jesus getting shitkicked for 2 hours, with lots of closeups of blood and skin falling off.
I regeret seeing it, the money would have been better spent on Euro Trip or something :1orglaugh |

yeah, Mel is sorta a freak about religion.

yeah I heard about that too

I liked it, I wish it would have had more of a story though.

This is what the Wiesethal Center says about "The Passion" and Jews:

Saw it. Sucked!!
Way too gory and as already said it has MORE BLOOD & GORE than any horror film ever made. What is the point of making a movie showing this much torture? Could have given us an idea of what Jesus went through without the never ending torture and blood. Movie was very disappointing as I expected some kind of story and references to others like Peter, ect. Not just capture and torture. And I can see why the Jews are pissed. My wife and I left half way through just as that first torture scene was ending. :321GFY PS. Don't see it. He's captured, tortured and dies. That's it. LOL |
I haven't seen it yet but I'm planning to...
