MegaPixel question

I got a 5.1MegaPixel camera. But only 16mb of memory stick. Is there a big noticable difference between 3.1Megapixel and 5.1. I dont know if the $100 256Mb memory stick is worth getting.

chowda 03-06-2004 12:25 AM

if ur gonna print ur shit, get the 5.1

riosluts 03-06-2004 12:26 AM

what about printing them on glossy 8X4 print paper.
big noticable different from 5.1 to 3.1?

There are only 2 choices? What kind of memory does your camera use?

riosluts 03-06-2004 12:29 AM

Memorystick pro

there are some other settings like VGA and 1.2Mb

Hi,

The only thing about more mega pixels is that you can have bigger prints made from the digital images. If your going to only use them on the net then 3.1 is fine. Because computers screens are only 72 px anyway.

But the larger memory card is nice... What happens when you go on vacation for a week, and don't have your computer to download them to? Your limited on the amount of pics by your storage ;-)

Check at like Wal-Mart or stores like that & watch the sales... I have found 264 meg cards for $49.00 after mail in rebate ;-)

3.1 megapixel is more than enough for high quality glossy prints. 5mega pixels is good for if you're doing magazine and huge poster prints. keep in mind 3 megapixel was the best at one point and used for magazine print.

in my opinion 5mp is over kill if you just want to have the latest/top of the line cam for bragging rights then get a 5mp cam

Also do the brand of memorystick matter. There is sony and there is also lexar etc. Is there any difference besides the brand name.

I saw a 9Mega pixil at Bestbuy for 1k I think.

same shit....some are "high speed" but you won't notice much since digicams usually have their own internal buffer....

It's not the amount of pixels that make the picture good... it's the physical size of the CCD and the qualify of the lens

I have 4 256 cards. I wouldn't buy anything bigger than 256. Never know when something will happen to one of them. Saw a 4gb card in a photo mag and that's insane! I can't imagine having that much info stored on a card and then it not working or whatever. I have a 6.3mp and I can put approximately 75 large pictures on a 256 card. The quality is excellent and you can print very large pics. If you are just wanting to print out 4x6's all day then I wouldn't worry too much about anything except a good printer.

I hear ya......I got the Nikon D100 the month it came out and the only large memory card available was a 1GB IMB MicroDrive....I get nervous every time I have a lot of pics on there.

I just copy the pics of the micro-drive as soon as I can and hope that it never fails the second after a shoot.

garfield81 03-06-2004 04:17 AM

just got a canon elph 4 MP digital cam today.. really good.

hova 03-06-2004 04:21 AM

I've got a 3.2 and a 5mp. The only difference is that the 5mp can make big quality pictures, but the 3.2 allso makes very nice pics
