There is an invisible dent where the blue and the red triangle meet and it's enough to amount to the volume of the missing square...

I do not get this trick at all... but how can it be the outside triangle? The surface of the blocks stays the same...

watch the "hypotenuse" of the large "triangle". it's actually not straight. so te large shape isn't a triangle but instead a quadrilateral.
