whats the closest you've ever been beaten to a domain?

I know back in the day it happened a few times within a day or so... but in 2004? heheh I lost out on one that got taken 3 days ago.. relatively obscure.. I rang the guy up to congratulate him and ask if i could buy.. I'm just glad he's actually using it and not sitting on it.

bleh.. just a reminder that if you're thinking about one to buy it now. :)

I thought of a domain one night and looked it up and it wasn't registered, but I needed to wait until the next day to register it and the next morning it was gone. I didn't tell ANYONE about the domain, but I noticed it was registered by someone I know! So my record is being beaten by about 9 hours. :feels-hot

These days, even on obscure domains, it's nearly impossible to register a domain unless you have a "special too'".

tootie 03-04-2004 05:40 PM

Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention, she registered it several months ago and it is still just parked at GoDaddy. I wonder if she'd sell it to me if I asked.

nice sig!

to be honest.. i have never really taken much notice.. if it's gone.. i move on and look for something else i can work with.

Just had the same thing happen, although it was a matter of hours, I checked the name to make sure it was aval, Checked 3 other domains and when I went to register the first one, someone had already registered it.

Last time I do that!

yours isn't too bad either :)

no i'd rather complain and think about if i hadn't have planned and collated overture and wordtracker results for days before i buy a couple of dozen whether i could have got it!

an hour? damn... I remember they used to go so fast I thought the registrar was tracking my searches and regging them before I had a chance heheh. Now if it's something relatively obscure i generally plan out what i'll get over a day or two and buy a family of similar ones, this last lot were painting and art print domains with decent results in overture and wordtracker (although nothing to write home about).

I was thinking about getting LEATHEROTICA.COM for about 3 months and the week I decided to get it, somebody snagged it. This was over 2 years ago and looks like they still haven't done anything with it -- http://www.leatherotica.com

I was thinking about registering this domain for some days, and when I went to register it was gone 10 fucking minutes before...

Profe$$orca$h_AJ 03-04-2004 06:08 PM

I am 100% sure godaddy must have someone watching to steal domains when you do a check to see if it is aval. I am not the only one who has had this happen..

It was an .com.br domain, so I registered the .com version of it a few seconds later.

Are you sure about that? It would be some serious fucked up shit if it is.

Profe$$orca$h_AJ 03-04-2004 06:14 PM

I am not the only one who has typed in a name and then minutes later goto register it to see it is unaval. I know a few people this has happend 2.

doornx 03-04-2004 06:17 PM

if you're after domains where people are sitting on try using expirefish (registerfly has a cheaper membership)

when the domain is dropped it's auto registered for you..great stuff
