Ok so really my dad died last year, my mom is 75 years old and needs help and I'm currently separated from my other mommy, but I pay the mortgage since she turned over the house to me so it's more like she lives with me now :winkwink:

There's nothing wrong with taking care of your parents. My mother in law will probably be moving in with us sometime in the next few years. I would never stick my parents in a nursing home!

No, my mom says she doesn't want to go to a nursing home, so I'll be moving out in a few months and she'll probably end up moving in with my sister who lives nearby.

I live by my own, I can't even imagine living with my mom. I'm in my twenties and my mom treats me like I'm a kid. She's a bit weird, she doesn't even want me to have boyfriend! And I will be 25 in 2 months! People much younger than me get married, and she doesn't want me to have any contact with any males? I think she had bad experiences with my father (they are divorced now) so she thinks all men are "out to get you" or something like that.

She also used to always go through my stuff when I lived there and open my mail and forbid me from doing anything even when I was 18 years old! I had no privacy at all.

So I moved out when I was 18-19 and never even looked back.

Our relationship is very bad, we probably need family therapy and counseling or something since we can't even communicate together.

Too be completely honest, my mom has other issues and that could be the reason why she acts out like that. My uncle, who is a doctor, said that my mom is Schizophrenic because she hears voices and imagines weird things... But we can't get her to take medication because she doesn't acknowledge that she has a problem. It's just a chemical imbalance in the brain, and not a huge deal. All she needs to do is take some pills to even out her chemical imbalance and she'll be fine. We have a lot of doctors in our family and even they can't get her help because she is not a threat to herself or others, she's just a bit "off"...

It didn't affect me too negatively. She still did a great job of raising me even though she feels she didn't because she wasn't financially stable. But that's ok, I still got a lot of love and turned out fine. It's just hard to get along with her because she is so difficult and obsessive with me. And she doesn't work or have a lot of social interaction so all she think about is me all day, since I am her only daughter. It's harder for me to deal with her than the rest of the family because she patronizes me because I'm her daughter, but the other members of the family don't get lectures and patronized all the time like I do, so they handle it better.
