Dating VS. reality
 

The way things are heading with dating sites, it appears that surfers cannot get enough. Everyone has their own dating preference and so the opportunity presents itself to be innovative and create websites to appeal to as many niches as possible. In my opinion, reality is in the same boat as targeted niches in that these types of sites present innovative ideas that grab surfers? interest and for the webmasters it is a win-win situation given that they already possess the keywords/placements from the older niche sites.

i would imagine dating is a big market.

apparently yahoo makes millions of their personals alone.

Lavalife is killing it with over $100 million in sales last fiscal year. Not bad for a little dating site!

Granted, LL also has their phone service which probably makes more than their Internet counterpart.

Dating is a phenom it seems, keeps growing, and i see an increase in television ads recently as well. So there must be some money being made somewhere along the line.
Setting up nicehe sites within the categories you mentioned both dating and reality certainly seems like a good idea. Niche targetted traffic is where it is at.

Not to mention players like Adult Friend Finder have setup tours based on niches as well such as asian, mature, indian, goth, etc... It only takes one splash page to attract a niche and it works quite well. I encourage dating programs to create multiple front-ends like this to micro-niche themselves out to the general population who have already seen the same dating sites over and over.

shit, i 100% agree, i was going to do a urban dating site before.. but could never coem up with a good domain name nor a good script so i gave up... but if you have the resources running a dating site is potential extra cash

Seems to be the way to meet people! Lot's of my friends use those on-line dating services and have actually met decent people! Who ever came up with the idea of making it free for women was a genius :thumbsup men are "flocking" to those sites! $$$$

I don't entirely see the similarities between reality sites and dating sites.

Dating is real. You solicit yourself for dates, and look for others who are soliciting themselves.

Reality sites (like College Fuck Fest for example) present real situations that the surfer can fantasize about participating in.

To me, they are two different niches altogether, requiring essentially different traffic to properly convert them.

Opinions vary! Dating converts with any traffic in my opinion because surfers that are signing up for porn sites are single and "LOOKING FOR LOVE IN ALL THE WRONG PLACES":winkwink:

i suspect a lot of guys who join dating sites don't ever try to contact other members - they just like the idea of reading about and seeing pics of REAL amateurs.

so they could have the same audience - just a thought...

Dating sites have probably the best retention among those sites that rebill. heck, one of my best friends is a former Laker girl and she is on Match.com and EHarmony so that should tell you something. :thumbsup

According to Jupiter Media dating market is in the toilet in terms of conversions, retentions and $$$ per visitor.... porn is making us many times more money!!

If anyone claims there is more money in dating than in porn then it's hype/bullshit.

Can you post some proof?? Not that I dont beleive you, but I know some people that run some dating sites and they kick my ass when it comes to $$$ per visitor

Can you post a quotation from Jupiter or Forrester regarding this? Quite simply said, I've seen the sales figures of certain dating sites and they by far outweigh those of adult pornographic sites (in my opinion). I'd love to see a stat from one of the major research companies to contradict this.

Dating takes lots of maintance and monitoring but it is a good way to grow a customer base.

so if it costs money to go on one of these dates, and a man/woman is not looking for anything other than sex, why is it not a better idea to just legalize prostitution, nad save us all?

Free dating sites are good! Reality is where the money is!

I wouldn't do it again personally.
But promoting it is fantastic.

I think dating is very strong but I couldnt imagine the costs to start. Bandwidth with all those pics and most give at least two weeks free and then getting the people to sign up. So the first people who go in dont only see two people . I think more niche type dating sites are needed.

We also did a lot of searching on dating and retentions on Google... there are a lot of reliable figures out there on the revenue and stats of Public companies... just search for "dating" +"retention" and stuff like that I'm sure you'll find a lot of figures.

the CTR and free joins on dating ads is better than porn... but when you get a signup to a porn site it's money in your pocket... on dating sites the free join users just browse around... with a small dating operation the costs are lower vs porn sites (as you have to buy content), but in a long perspective it's without a doubt more profitable to build a mega porn site than a mega dating site. :2 cents:
