Your favorite video game(s)?

Back in the days Duke Nukem was my favorite, of course. Then Counter-Strike when it came around, albeit it got old pretty fast.

But looking back at this point, I'd say that the best games I've ever played were Baldur's Gate and Fallout 2.

I have bought the deluxe edition of Battlefield 1942, expecting it to maybe become another favorite of mine, especially with some friends of mine being into it, but unfortunately the new gfx card I picked up to be able to play it (64mb ATI All-In-Wonder doesn't cut it for anything any more) didn't work and I have to exchange it before I can play.

So let's hear your favorites. :2 cents:

Counter Stike, ive been paying it since it came out. Awsome game.

strats 03-01-2004 04:44 PM

well... There are several games atm that are fairly promising with a decent video card. I only play online games btw, so i am not too sure about your particular interests... although i can help you decide what NOT to get :) ......

I would pretty much say use BF 1942 and unreal tournament 2004 (not out yet.. soon tho) for online fun. These are fairly fast matches without any character development.

If your into a more fantasy/role playing/in depth game with character development and rewards, then I could only reccomend waiting for World of Warcraft to come out near the end of this eyar sometime. The massive multiplayer online roleplaying game (mmorpg) industry has about 3 worthless titles coming out this year and 2 very heated contestants -world of warcraft and EverQuest2. Personally, I would reccomend against everquest 2 due to their tendancy to weave in very deep mind control and enslavement tools into the whole thing. World of warcraft however, I reccomend will be a Fairly Decent game minus the EverQuest Fanbois who will be hired to go there and ruin the atmosphere with 'd00d', '1337', 'leik, teh,' etc etc. types of behavior.

The UT2004 demo can be downloaded here http://download.filefront.com/211655...6c36d9db4bba0d
... its decent ..

and
If you are interested in looking at world of Warcraft, here is the home webpage http://www.blizzard.com/wow/

... and here is the video from last march
http://www.xpd8.net/downloads.asp?id=91

here is the most recent video ;p .. enjoy. these guys are good. http://download.blizzard.com/pub/WoW...E3_2003_PC.avi

First of all, very good post.

But can you elaborate on the selected quote? I know EverQuest is a very addicting game, but surely the makers are responsible for making a good game rather than knowingly using mind control techniques? Can you point out what you feel they have done to "weave in very deep mind control and enslavement tools"?

I haven't played it myself, but I have read many stories about people who have commited suicide while playing it, ended up in financial ruin, given up on their real lives completely, and so forth.

Thanks.

Well everquest was all about loot and being the best there is. This would require a daily 8 hour commitment to the game at the highest levels of raiding. And then theres the guilds who make sure they are in the lead on their particular server via use of the companies 'secret priveliged few' policy where they grant particular elite people rights to be the number 1 on their server (without anyone knowing, kinda like a conspiracy.. but in a vieo game) (not all servers got pwnd tho, which made for very heated rants ;p ) .....

read their case on everquest. "You are in Our world Now." ..

thats it.. the game is based around being uber and having loot and keeping the have nots suffering. that is all. they constantly break/restrict the game in small ways to keep the forums and boards heated with fag discussions so people dont realize the game for what it is. etc etc... goes on and on. the game is oriented around owning people and perpetuating a system of having controll of others.

zzgundamnzz 03-01-2004 05:05 PM

Duke Nukem rocked. It was so easy to make mods for that game. Once made a 2 mile deep hole and in the bottom put 25 predators...

Poor Duke would yell when he fell, he'd rest, then he'd start yelling again... :1orglaugh

All valid points if correct then.

Regardless, I wonder if the makers ever have conscience issues. Some people playing this are worse than heroin addicts. They need it non-stop, with no time to eat or do much anything at all.
