Barrel of Jack Daniels for sale: $9,000

LYNCHBURG, Tenn. -- In a cold warehouse poking over the trees atop a hill, the smell of whiskey and charred wood aging hangs in the air, reminding visitors of the building's purpose.

The long rows of ricks, or wooden planks, stored over seven floors, hold more than 20,000 barrels of Jack Daniel's whiskey in various stages of aging. Some of the barrels have last year's date written on the top. Others go back several years.

For about $9,000, you can buy one.

That's right, the whole barrel of Jack Daniel's premium brand Single Barrel for you and 239 of your closest friends. Each barrel averages about 240 bottles, all of them 94-proof.

When you do buy a barrel, your name can be burned onto wood panels on a distillery wall. Country singer George Strait has bought one. Military bases around the country have bought them. Then there's a buyer identified only as "The Immortal Head Bubba."

For Jack Daniel's owner -- Louisville-based Brown-Forman Corp. -- selling its finest aged whiskey by the barrel is another way to build the company's leading spirits brand and its upscale image.

Wow your own barrel of Jack Daniels! If your not going to be a drunk than, when will you ever be one? nice!

Rich 02-29-2004 04:35 PM

240 bottles for $9000, that's not much of a deal. What's a standard bottle in the US? 40 OZ?

jonoallan 02-29-2004 04:37 PM

love jack D but not for that much :(

garfield81 02-29-2004 04:46 PM

$25 * 240 = $6000 so why $9000 ???? aren't wholesale prices supposed to be cheaper ???

jasonir 02-29-2004 04:46 PM

No thanks.

Guess you're paying extra for the barrel itself.

I beg to differ, I have a 40 year old bottle of whisky that is the smoothest I have ever tasted!

And, yall have to compare prices to the real thing, this is Jack Single Barrell, which goes locally for about 40 a bottle, so 40x240 is 9600, plus with this you are getting barrel.

Ive often thought about getting it when I open my hotel, as a "managers" opening special, etc.

SoundMan 02-29-2004 11:08 PM

Pass on that one for sure!

exspamr 02-29-2004 11:12 PM

well im guessing that its all the same stuff put in at the same time... when you buy a bottle of regular jack daniels the whiskey comes from multiple barrels that are of different ages, that way they dont have to wait a number of years... bottles of single malt whiskey are more expensive... so thats where the 9 grand comes in... i wouldnt buy one, if i did id probably die of alcohol poisoning... besides i prefer evan williams

foolio 02-29-2004 11:14 PM

If I was going to spend that mouch on one type of drink - that would be it.

chodadog 02-29-2004 11:37 PM

Single barrel 94 proof. That's not the shit you get in the stores for 25 bucks a pop. It's this stuff.

If any of you can find it for 25 bucks per bottle, let me know. :winkwink:

You should probably unplug your keyboard before you embarrass yourself any further. Guess you have no idea what Green Whiskey or White Dog is? Unaged whiskey. Clear as vodka, and has way more flavour.

The difference between wine and whiskey is that wine will continue to age and change in taste once it's bottled. Whiskey will not. A bottle of whiskey will taste exactly the same in 50 years as it does today. The aging only occurs in the barrel.

During warm weather, the liquid expands into the wood of the barrel, and in the cool weather, it contracts, which brings out sugars, tannins and other flavours.

In other words... stfu. :winkwink:

I'm drinking jack right now.

I was in Bulgaria a year and a half ago and asked for a shot of JD. They said they only did double shots so i said to give that to me. He asked if i wanted ice and i said no. Everyone stared at me like i had a penis growing out of my forehead when i drank the shots straight no chaser. Guess thats what I get for hanging out with bikers too often.

That's the way we do it in NYC baby!

It is. It's single barrel 94 proof. It's not the regular stuff. Add to that the fact that you have the novelty of owning a barrel of jack daniels. That's sweet. I wish i had 9 grand to blow on booze. haha.
