I'm curious as to the most common form of payment...

almost every adult in the UK has a debit card and nochex is like a paypal for UK debit cards (except the user doesnt have to register)


but i would say most UK surfers have credit cards, because most have credit cards in the UK

I personally do not like diallers. Ok they may work short term, but I am not sure how many surfers will want to pay dialler rates each month when they can join other sites for much less - and stay with them. I prefer to look at long term, and keep members happy for a long time.

People in the UK are getting far more happier paying on line. I think in the past people were wary, but to be honest, how often do you turn on TV and hear about problems paying online with people stealing cash. Not often, its probably these days the least credit card crime done.

Debit cards are very popular in the UK. I suspect Debit cards are not used as much in the USA. As such most sites seem only to offer credit card payments. In the UK Switch cards are owned by many people, so if you can take payments this way then its great. The problem with debit cards is that people under 18 can own them, and so unlike credit cards which means only those 18 and over can access your site. With a switch card, a 14 year old can access your site, and so there is a chance that you could be providing porn to under 18 year olds. Switch after all is an electric version of Checks, and so anyone with a bank account can have a Switch card (just about).

Another major problem is that most sites only quote USA dollars. $10 sounds a lot but its only about £5. Many UK surfers will not be able to know the difference, and so may be put of from joining thinking the site cost more than it does. I also wonder how many of those in the UK who read there credit card stament may think they are being cheated, as the amount taken from the card each month will change. I.e., $30 may be £15 one month and £16 the next. I wonder how many cancel thinking they are being cheated.

I am surprised how little USA payment systems seem to cater for those in the UK considering that there must be millions of UK pounds spent on the net.

Out of interest how would you deal with the problem of those under 18 joining up with a Switch card?

I know many children who have them. I too had one at 16.

With credit card by law you have to be 18, but not with debit cards.

Thus if a 16 year old went on, and parents found out. I just wonder what the legal position is.

I.e., unless you put in place some protection to prevent under 18's joining, then I am sure people would have a case to sue.

Funny I often wonder the same thing regarding credit card sales,dialers etc - what if a minor takes their parents CC and then orders one of your DVD's?

I am sure there is some legal clause I am will indeed check them out though its a parents responsibility to control their children.

Nochex is seeking partners to do this with Adultcashuk - the above post - are in the process of setting up payouts via Nochex. We are also in the process of talking with 4 - 5 others.

This is a very valid point and I obviously is a cheaper way and more reliable way to payout your partners. Hopefully in the next six months we can get more people from the USA and Europe to pay out UK Webmasters within their programe.

The best way to convert UK traffic dialers. Some our big webmasters do it more 3000 euro per day just send UK traffic to us.

In the UK we have quite a few choices..

With Global Charge/Coulomb I have a 30 minute SMS trial on one of my sites for UK£2. I also use their dialler which can go from US$50 - 250 a month, They also accept Switch and Solo and to be honest.. I didn't think of under 18's using them before I read the post above.. hmmm

And of course good old CCBill now with 900 access for US surfers as well as the usual cc's.

I also bank in the States and have a debit card for my account there and it's a MasterCard which works the same as a credit card, only it's tied to the amount in the bank :( I don't know if I have this as I am a non resident account holder or all Americans get this. Do you Americans have/use debit cards ?

For UK surfers we are selling more and more through Nochex

Draw back is its very limited on intergration but still good, and a definate alternate to paypal for UK surfers.
Mooneybookers seem another good choice, we just getting set with them for a number of projects.

Only way to go long term is your own merchant account,
3rd party processing is a dying model, or at least will be in a couple of years i reacon
