Went snowboarding for the first time today...

Been dying to try it for years. I've never a winter sport before. I stayed on the bunny hill, but it was still pretty cool, although my knees and ass are sore from falling.

I'm looking forward to taking lessons next winter :)

tbabe 02-28-2004 08:29 PM

ive been trying to find time to go, hopefully in a couple weeks i'll get out to the hill again. only been a couple times. lots of fun

myjah 02-28-2004 08:32 PM

i've only been skiing. i hear its completely different from that. i've always been turned off cause it seems that snowboarders have to have to sit down in the snow and get their butt wet alot

Murphy_Dog 02-28-2004 08:32 PM

Ahh.... and to bad for us you made it home to tell us about it.

:1orglaugh :1orglaugh

We are all very excited for you!

:)

I used to be an instructor in highschool, you should hit me up if you ever want private lessons.

if you have a good pair of snowpants, your ass won't get wet.
it definetly is a pain to get around with the snowboard though. i was watching all the skiiers go by and they looked they were having such an easier time.

where did you go?

Mont Avila... a little crummy mountain.

boardersweetie, i appreciate the offer, but i think you're a little far from me :)

me, my girlfriend and her two sisters will probably take lessons next winter. we wanted to do them in january, but it was -40 outside half the freakin' month.

VicMartin 02-28-2004 08:36 PM

Wait till tomorrow. I tried it and didn't like it. Too painfull. I switched back to skis after about 45 minutes of snowboard lessons. I'll tell you, my tailbone was KILLING me the next few days.

Start taking something for the pain NOW!

Ic3m4nZ 02-28-2004 08:37 PM

Snowblading is better :thumbsup

C_U_Next_Tuesday 02-28-2004 08:40 PM

Yeah, welcome to the dark side Psyko514...It took me three days in a row to actually be able to stand up on the board.. now you can't keep me off the slopes. It does take time and practice to feel comfortable on your board, but it 's so worth it.

:thumbsup

psyko514 02-28-2004 08:43 PM

Actually, I only fell hard on my ass twice, so it wasn't too bad. I have no idea what I looked like going down the hill, but I don't think I did too badly. I'm definetly gonna try it again. Hopefully, I'll get to go before the end of the year.

Snow blades look like a lot of fun too, but I don't think they were renting them out at Avila.

boardersweetie 02-28-2004 08:45 PM

snowbladers are gay... serious, I grew up on the mountain.

psycho - don't take big group lessons, you'll hate them. They're a horrible waste of money and time. The lesson consists of the same format for every rider, but different riders learn differently. I learned more fucking around on the hill before my first lesson than I actually learned during the lesson.
Edit: You're better off teaching yourself than taking lessons at a park.

As far as snowboarding vs. skiiing... skiing any idiot can learn in about 2 seconds, but it's too easy and lame to be any fun. Snowboarding takes about 3 dedicated days to catch, but once you get it, you'll never have to be on your ass again.

Jedimaster 02-28-2004 09:05 PM

you should have strapped a big pillow to your ass

When my friend was learning he used to stuff kleenex into his pants around his knees. Funny stuff.

I am not so sure about that....My first time Snowboarding was 4 years ago. Took me 8 hrs to Finaly get the hang of it. The bunny Slope is THE WORST to learn on Becuase the snow is Hardpacked already.. Go for the fresh Powder on a Square run :-)

The 3rd day I was on the 1/2 pipe No flips or anything just Air grabs.

Of course I have been an avid Surfer/Sk8ter so that might have helped with the ease of learning :-)

cayne 02-29-2004 04:50 AM

snowboarding is so nice. it's much better than skiing. i've done both and you can't compere them. SNOWBOARDING OWNZ.

kowntafit 02-29-2004 05:02 AM

I've only been skiing. I'd love to try snow boarding. The closest thing we have here is sand boarding (pretty simular I think).

I know a guy that did snow boarding comercials here in Australia and they used to film him doing snowboarding tricks on the sand and the snow was just added later.

VeriSexy 02-29-2004 05:43 AM
