Just saw Passion of the Christ

Anyone else planning on seeing it this weekend? It's a good movie, kind of sad though. Had some really intense scenes.

klik 02-28-2004 12:03 AM

I use the automatic ticket machine and get the senior citizen price. Or the childrens price, either way it's only $5.50. :thumbsup

insanesurfer 02-28-2004 12:06 AM

I might be going to see sat or sun.

Babaganoosh 02-28-2004 12:06 AM

I saw it today. Not a bad movie at all. I don't know why people are bitching about it. I guess they didn't think that what Jesus went through might have been bloody and violent. Christians are such pussies.

I read the book so I already knew how it was going to end. ;)

I think most adult Christians believe that is was in fact pretty bloody and violent...

Go see the movie and listen to the gasps and cries from the audience as he is being beaten and see what you think then.

hoe_vender 02-28-2004 12:12 AM

who cares

Biggy2 02-28-2004 12:16 AM

Many Jewish people are very upset over it since a lot of the movie depicts Jews as the cause for Jesus's death.

Mel Gibson funded the whole movie - his father is a Holocaust Revisionist - that means his father puts out literature that claims the Holocaust never happened. It is also said that his father is an anti-Semite.

A few of my friends saw the movie, and they said as jews, it was a rough movie to sit through, but a good movie.

There's a lot of publicity cause this movie may help sway people to anti-Semitism.

Pontius Pilate was a Jew. Pontius Pilate is responsible for the killing of Christ. That's a fact. I don't know how telling it like it is can be anti-semitic.

I saw it last night, and yes there were some gasps and cries.

But just because someone believed that it was violent and bloody does not make it easy to watch the movie.

Hypothetical, extreme situation:
Let's suppose the person you most cared about was brutally murderd by whatever method, and you knew this.

Then you see a video tape of it actually happening.
Do you think you might not gasp or cry over the video?

And if your answer is no, then you can stomach this kind of trauma better than most ppl (including most Christians).

Very poor argument you made.

Observing 02-28-2004 12:45 AM

Dont tell us how it ends :winkwink:

Damn, I thought it was just a movie. I didn't know they filmed the ACTUAL crucifixion!

Talk about poor arguments.

JunkyardDog 02-28-2004 12:47 AM

May go see it on Sunday

Umm..actually Pontius Pilate wasn't a jew. He was in fact a roman.
He was the Roman procurator of Judea.

You might be thinking of King Herod..the "King of Judea" at the time of the crucifixion.

schiz 02-28-2004 02:04 AM

How does it end?
:eyecrazy

foolio 02-28-2004 02:04 AM

I plan on seeing it this weekend - no idea why peopel are getting so upset over a movie.. its not like Gibson made the shit up as he was going along...

Theo 02-28-2004 02:16 AM

Most of the time anti-semitism accusations are overreactions or lies.

HeadPimp 02-28-2004 02:17 AM

I was going to go see it, but there has been so much hype and shit flying around over it that I really don't care to bother with it now...

I can't believe so many people want to see it, talk about hyped, I hope Mel sells some crucifixion Nails yay.

eskimo 02-28-2004 02:45 AM

I'll go and see it eventually, don't see what the big deal about the violence is, seems like a publicity stunt IMO.

It was the opposite with me, at first I was like "uh, a religious movie, I'll see Eurotrip instead", but then everybody was talking about how crazy it was and people died watching it and eros said he was quitting the industry (obviously it was a joke), so I figured I HAD to see it. It's one of those things that you have to see for yourself what all the hype is about.

Krille 02-28-2004 05:17 AM

can't wait for it to come to a cinema near me

slackologist 02-28-2004 05:56 AM

Imagine a movie about L. Ron Hubbard. Funny. :1orglaugh

I saw the movie on Wed. - I thought it was violent and over the top - so much hipe, I felt duped, like the blair witch hunt. I guess I didn't get the point. Power & Domination haven't changed over the years - I do think the movie will get an award for make up. If you didn't know the story before watching it, I don't think it tracks very well.

Ponce Pilate was a roman, one of the most brutal governor of Judea, so brutal that Ceasar recalled him.
King Herod was not a Jew, he was a Greek who was imported in Judea as there was no one left to be or to want to be King.

Gibson said on a interview that he based the movie, on some german nun's point of view (who by the way is a well known anti semite and wrote many nazi like books and he claimed he only found out after the movie) sounds like it would clearly come out anti semitec.

tony286 02-28-2004 07:32 AM

People forget its just a movie Mel Gibson made for profit. The build up to it was great marketing ,they have been talking about it for months.

Great idea!!:Graucho

Ramster 02-28-2004 08:54 AM

Saw it last night. Too gory. No need for torture scenes to go on for 15-20 minutes!

If this wasn't Mel Gibson or a movie about Jesus there is no way it would be shown in theatres with that much graphic torture and viloence.
:2 cents:
