Is this a possible billing technique for movie paysites?
 

Don't bill the member monthly, but let him purchase a certain amount of bandwidth, along with the monthly subscription.

If the bandwidth runs out, or the month is over, rebill him.

Easynews runs this billing method for their newsgroups. They offer you to automatically rebill a certain X amount of times or they prompt you when you hit the limit if you don't have auto-rebilling enabled.

Discuss.

I don't see anything really replacing the monthly subscription method.

Obviously that would only work for paysites with heaps and tons of vid material. The surfer would keep on downloading and downloading, and even hit the limit earlier than at the month's end.

Im sure DRM pay per view, or sms billing methods will have alot to say about that.

Oh the monthly method is still in place. It would be an extension to the monthly billing.

That might work but for people with cable they expect to pay $30 and download like crazy.

there was a very large movie paysite back in the late 90's that was doing this.

can't remember their name now dammit.
