Outsourcing employees (dell example)

this comes from a guy living in India and works for Dell's customer support

"
I make 200 dollars a month

6 days a week and 3 am to 12.30 pm are the timings of my shift since we handle technical queries from Dell customers in USA "

How much money would an american employee make in the same position?

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 02-25-2004 02:12 PM

Dude.

I think we all know that outsourcing is "The thing" to do...
Unfortunatly there are no answers at this time as to how the American Work force can compete.

Why not try and figure that one out instead of the same old stupid questions regarding outsourcing...

in the short scheme of things outsourcing is a great idea, but in the long run it hurts businesses because they hurt the economy by not stimulating it monetarily. When are we gonna learn?

i would be the last to care about how the american work force can compete in such cases. What I want to know is how much money Dell saves per employee. :)

KraZ 02-25-2004 02:33 PM

I've been into IT outsourcing for 7 years (my other biz) so I don't think companies that DONT outsource stand a chance to compete in the global economy ...

The issue is to outsource to the right company (as Mutt pointed out) or of course create your own sibsidiary in India (China or Russia) like the big boys :)

So, Mutt, if you want to have a WantonGirls - European division, let me know :)

That guy's probably living like a PIMP in India for that pay.

Most of the world gets by on $1 a day.

Think about that

yes, im proud to say that im with them.

Eventually, Outsourcing will be a boom to other countries which offer cheap services that is certainly not different to services in the US. Company's like Dell has seen the potential of outsouring its employees from India to cut cost and spend more on research and expanding its facilities.

I love outsourcing :glugglug

For phone tech support? I cant see that being more than a $300/week job. - so $1200/month. Huge savings for Dell, but not 10x

If they were paying $500.00/week to answer the phone for support that would be a big surprise.

Would be intersting to compare the benefits packages - that can be a huge savings, as well.

slackologist 02-25-2004 03:22 PM

looks like atleast 2k/ employee / month.. i could be wrong.. not sure of the rates over there.

- tech support gets paid more than just general user /account support

liquidmoe 02-25-2004 03:25 PM

You know the last few times I called up Dell Support I think I noticed a few more Indians taking my calls. Interesting :winkwink:

Horny Dude 02-25-2004 03:39 PM

I had to call Linksys and they are 100% in India! I think it is fucking funny how they tell you some American name like Mark, Richard or Jennifer. Yeah I believe that.:1orglaugh

prostock 02-26-2004 05:35 AM

I hear people bitch over the outsouricng tho a big prob and we all know it so many not want to work there , or get wellfar and shit ,
or they think they should get this pay and not get it so they then want take the job . every one wants to save money on buying shit or getting shit done , well if the people want to pay less and not more then you have to look at ways to shave and save and if outsouring some one in another country to save in this other area to keep a price down and low to make the buyers happy then THINK ON IT HOW FAULT IS THIS REALLY . the person getting the outsourcing done or those that bitch or pricing ! :2 cents: :2 cents:

VeriSexy 02-26-2004 05:43 AM

Outsourcing is the best way to safe money and increase profits. Russian and Indian programmers are very good and cheap as long as their communication is good.

Jer 02-26-2004 06:15 AM

I read that telemarketers that speak english (customer support) in Brazil makes around $225 per month, but I think they work 5 days per week.

Theo 02-26-2004 06:29 AM

I can see more jobs requiring extensive technical skills/knowledge to be outsourced in the near future.

How many of you would hire an online sales person from India or another country with cheap labor?
