True but what can you do?

slackologist 02-25-2004 06:21 AM

I recieved a letter in the post from the US ( in Australia here) which was spam from some company trying to get me to switch domain registers.. The letter was made out at first to look like i needed to renew my domains.. fill out form etc. I'm sure it would have worked on some people that can't read very well :-)

Anna_O 02-25-2004 06:22 AM

Not much I guess. Warn other people about it maybe? :winkwink:

WebDork 02-25-2004 06:24 AM

I got that top one posted today as well.

Furious_Male 02-25-2004 07:34 AM

Yes someone posted about this yesterday as well. Its a new creative phishing expedition for some scammer. They are preying on the greedy (and stupid).

fvurakki 02-25-2004 07:37 AM

Snail mail? Then the fuckers will definately be put out. Snail mail laws are alot tougher than spam/e-mail laws.

Loch 02-25-2004 07:48 AM

I get snailmail from Domain Registry of America with order forms to "renew" all of my domains. You would think they would vary their fees a little depending on who the domain is already hosted with.

In case anyone in this tread missed my post yesterday....

"I assure you this is in no way "powered by" or condoned by Jettis. We began seeing these email solicitations and websites start popping up approximately 10 days ago and have since involved our legal team and various government agencies.

The sites are not only involved in trademark infringement but, more importantly, credit card and bank fraud. Something we are obviously taking very seriously given our position as an IPSP.

If anyone happens to see more of these floating around who doesn't mind taking the time; please drop the details to [email protected]

Jettis, Inc."

Do you own those domains or something?

MillionDollarBill 02-25-2004 11:51 AM

smells like a scam to me :1orglaugh

Thee Johnclave 02-25-2004 01:39 PM

Rich... no we do not own the domains. We have no affiliation with whomever is sending out these mailings or hosting/administering the domains.
