To do or NOT to do in a restaurent.

For three years of my life, I degraded myself by serving crappy food to dumb people. Like everyone else who has ever worked in a food-focused profession, I developed a seething hatred of all customers. Most of them tend to be unreasonable, demanding, and just plain rude. This behavior is counterproductive though, considering that the average 16-year-old doesn?t have the patience or desire to tolerate blatant disrespect with a smile. Instead, they will most likely take their anger and frustration out in private?usually while they are handling your food. Following is a list of ?Do?s and don?ts? that you may want to memorize if you ever plan on eating out again.

DON?T complain that the food doesn?t look like the food in the picture. That is computer generated food, you trailer-trash moron. Besides, if you want everything perfect, you can always go home and make it your damn self.

DON?T complain about how long it?s taking to prepare your food. I can guarantee you that you?re getting it faster then if you were to make it yourself.

DO remember that we?re human and will undoubtedly make mistakes. The nicer you are about our fuck-ups, the better your chances are for receiving free food.

DON?T threaten our jobs. You just make yourself look stupid. Do you honestly think a manager will fire someone who has put months (or even years) of hard work into the company because one person complained? Do you realize how hard it is to get someone to work there in the first place?

DON?T call the 800 number to bitch. We just laugh at those reports when they send them back to us.

DO call the store you visited when you have a problem. The manager in charge is usually so tired and unwilling to argue that they will sacrifice large quantities of free food in order to shut your stupid ass up.

DON?T threaten never to come back. Think about that for a minute. Those kids make the same bullshit wage whether you show up or not! Technically speaking, if you don?t show up, that just means less work for them. (That?s a good thing) Also, do you really think a predominant business will go under if your sorry ass doesn?t show up? I hate to break this to you, but your lousy $5 a week doesn?t make a difference.

DON?T show up a week later after doing the above.

DO pull away from the drive-thru as soon as you receive your food. If you suffer from chronic paranoia and must check your food, pull over to the side to do it. There are other people in line besides you.

DON?T order a burger at a taco place and vice-versa. We?ve heard that one before. We are not amused.

DON?T leave your trays on the table when you leave, Mr. Lazy.

DON?T fuck with anyone who has direct contact with something you are planning to eat. (You would be surprised at how many people don?t seem to ?get? this concept)

DO become the ?perfect? customer. Order quickly, pay quickly, and exit quickly.

Trust me on this stuff?it may save your life someday

The first rule of thumb is don't eat in a place with pictures of their food on the menu ;)

Intrigue 02-24-2004 12:31 PM

Alot of people could learn from this post, Personally, i do whatever i have to, so that i don't become a victim of drive through rage, or spit on my burger.

NetRodent 02-24-2004 12:32 PM

When I was in the restaurant business there was a study done by one of the trade magazines that showed when someone has a good experience in a restaurant they told, on average, two people. When they had a bad experience they told seven. Don't overlook the power of negative word of mouth.

It might not matter to you if you're the server making less than
minimum wage, but it should matter to management.

rooster 02-24-2004 12:35 PM

i agree with all of it.

when i go to a fast food place, i speak my order nice and clearly. ie ( #1 combo and a coke, that is all thank you)

special requests of any kind are for pains in the ass.

I briefly worked in a restaurant when I was 18, and I abide by what I learnt then, respect works both ways, if you get good service then TIP.

Very interesting reading :thumbsup Doctor Dre

I agree, and I'm polite as fuck to anyone who's about to make or serve me food, I don't need a mouthfull of spit or some shit. You could be Donald Trump it doesn't fucking matter, for 5 minutes that 16 year old kid at McDonalds owns you, so kiss his ass. That's why I like subway.

Not a fucking chance I'm pulling out from the drive thru until I figure out EXACTLY how you fucked up my order THIS TIME! Why the fuck should I pull forward only to have to come IN to the fucking crap-stop to get my order fixed? I'm in the drive-thru because I don't want to get my lazy ass out of the car in the 1st place.

As soon as I start trusting these incredibly stupid over-paid shits to get things right I find myself paying $20 for the privilege of arriving at home and finding under-cooked, pink chicken.

This is especially true if you go back to the same place often. You'd be surprised how much better your experience is when the waiter/waitress knows you tip well.

I watch the people preparing my food like a hawk in fast food restaurants. Is this wrong?

not true, I've fired more then a few people in my restuarant days based on customer complaints. I'll listen to a loyal customer who's been coming in religiously for years over some snotfucked 16 year old

this is untrue as well, any company that has an 800# specifically for complaints, acts on those complaints. It may not be as extreme as firing people, but disciplinary measures will be taken. or you just worked for some shitass company who didn't give a shit about it's customers

any manager that does that for those reasons needs to be fired immediately

no their 5$ does not make a difference, you're right, but word of mouth goes VERY VERY far when it comes to restaurants. Piss off the wrong person and it WILL effect your business. I've seen it happen

never worked anywhere with a drive-through, but i'll check my shit when it's handed to me, the people behind me in line can wait another 8 seconds for me to double check that the retard who can barely read and who doesn't yet have a HS diploma didn't fuck up my order. You'd be surprised how often "No Cheese" gets misconstrued as "smother it with every available slice of cheese in the state" I send about 60% of my orders back because they're too dumb to understand the concept of not adding cheese.

you laugh... you know you do :winkwink:

regardless of whether they "get it" or not, fact remains that fucking with peoples food is a SERIOUS offense, and should the pimplefaced fry jockey get caught that's his ass. Granted, I know better then to fuck with people handling my food, but being the one making the food gives you no right to potentially make people extremely ill

DAMN FUCKING STRAIGHT! I always check my order, cause these $5 an hour IQ the size of the shoes lame ass bitches don't care enough, and wouldn't be smart enough to get my order right even if they wanted to.

Never underestimate the power of bitching at CEO of the corporation.. Things happen when you do that!
