saw Bill Clinton and Bob Dole last night

I saw them speak as part of a lecture series at Universal Amphitheater last night. It's been a long time since I saw a republican with a sense of humor. Dole prowled from one side of the stage to the other constantly throwing out one-liners and telling stories, instantly won over the audience.

Clinton was dry and very, very serious but he knew EVERYTHING about anything he was asked to speak about, names, places, dates, square acreage, where the bodies are buried and who put them there. Very challenging speaker and he was looking better than he did when he was in office. It's hard to describe Clinton's effect up close, he's not as soft and fuzzy as he looks on tv.

Would like to hear that lecture. I hear they do quite well together.

Deepundercover 02-24-2004 12:28 PM

Clinton was dull, dull, dull. He put the crowd to sleep. Dole stole the show.

Christian Mann of Video Team was there.

Dole stole the show like Chris Rock would have stolen the show. He was funny and you liked him, but Clinton was clearly on another level of competence policy-wise.

I thought Clinton's statements on an individuals world-view as a filter for their perceptions of discrete events was very interesting. "You may not agree with my world view. That's fine, but you need to get one of your own."

I'm surprised at you Luke...

Clinton's 'world view' makes me laugh.

That's profound. You're brilliant. Can I suck your dick?

Deepundercover 02-24-2004 01:03 PM

Please tell me what Clinton's worldview was. I never could discern one beyond getting elected. He was many things as a president, but few people could discern any kind of vision.

The crowd loved him. 90% stood up to applaud when he entered. Yet they uttered barely a peep when he spoke, because he had little to say.

Mind you, I don't think Bob Dole had anything to say either.

rounders 02-24-2004 01:04 PM

:) awsome

Deepundercover 02-24-2004 01:06 PM

Dig, you never called me. I never saw you. Saw Christian Mann. Are you coming to the rest of the UJ speaker series?

Luke you're viewing everything through your republican colored lens. Clinton didn't have a vision? He didn't bring peace to Northern Ireland? He damn near solved the Palestinian problem until your pal GWB came into office and fucked everything up. We went to Kosovo and stopped a genocide but since it was Muslims being killed you probably don't care too much about that. Do you need me to read you his resume, or would you just immediately forget, deny or denigrate his amazing accomplishments while in office like every other conservative does?

You need to have your head buried pretty damn far in the sand to think Clinton had no vision or has 'little to say'.

The problem with conservatives is that nothing anyone says or does has any chance at all of penetrating their thick skulls.

I called you right after the event, I wanted to go out and get something to eat or at least say hi and introduce you to my stripper girlfriend in front of your Rabbi ;))

I'll DEFINITELY be there for Bill Maher, and probably for the rest of the series as well.

Typical response from someone that doesn't know Clinton's world view and can't/won't defend it.

To answer your question... only if you swallow.

dig420 02-24-2004 01:20 PM

you're the expert? A shill for epiccash?

here is Clinton's world view in a nutshell as stated last night.

We are in a world in which nations, tribes and individuals are increasingly interdependent. If you cannot completely kill, imprison or banish your enemy you must eventually make a deal with them in order to co-exist. It is better to make a deal to co-exist than to kill each other.

Should be simple enough for even a broke person in a cash-rich industry to comprehend.

You lose points here... before even making a point you attack. No -- I'm not a shill for EC, but I fly it to piss haters off.

If you must know... I really haven't sent any clicks to EC in the last 6 months.

End with an attack too -- based on a u/n? You must be so proud.

I saw him talking to a class that was studying his presidenct at the University of Arkansas on C-Span and it was just absolutely incredible. The man has a wealth of knowledge and knows his shit whether you agree with him or not.

Mutt 02-24-2004 02:17 PM

that must have been a cool lecture. i like Clinton and Dole.

Luke what did you want them to say that is interesting? They are politicians - pragmatists - doers. People like you don't want answers really - you admire people who keep asking more questions that are unanswerable. Intellectuals aren't interested in solving anything - if one day they truly figured out how many angel could dance on the end of a pin they would collectively commit mass suicide - they wouldn't be able to cope.

Xplicit 02-24-2004 02:31 PM

Dole is actually a pretty funny guy. Ive seen him on a few of the late night talk shows :thumbsup
