What foods "cleanse" the body?

I eat a lot of meat and potatoes. A LOT. Every now and then I start to feel kind of strange, like cramped up or something. So I'll have a salad and the next day I'll wake up feeling nice and fresh, the cramps and weird feelings go away. I don't really know how to explain it.

Anyone else experience anything like this? Are there any other foods that "flush" out your system? I know cranberry juice is supposed to be good for your bladder. I'll drink a glass of that every now and then too.

Ever go to a smoothie bar and get those shots of wheatgrass? Tastes nasty, but that probably means it's good for you.

LadyMischief 02-23-2004 08:14 PM

I never drank enough water so I bought a case of bottled water and have it sitting in my room. Now whenever I'm thirsty, I grab a water instead of a soda. Having the bottles really helps and is a great way to monitor how much you're drinking. So I've cut down on my soda and now have a couple bottles of water a day. It's great.

Try lots of lettuce. Lettuce can't be digested due to the build of a plant cell so the body ends up shitting it out along with all those potatoes.

digifan 02-23-2004 10:18 PM

You shoukd eat lots of fruits for breakfast and as snack and salad every day and drink mineral water instead of sodas.

There are herbs which help also and garlic, sauerkraut which is very healthy, fills you up and has a lot of vitamin c in it.

digifan 02-23-2004 10:20 PM

One day every week you might eat fruits only and mineral water or juice, this works :)

some steamed cabbage and a few beers should do the trick :)

Pornwolf 02-23-2004 10:28 PM

Water definitely. 8 cups a day at least. I do a half gallon daily without fail.

Oatmeal for breakfast or a fiber supplement daily. I don't usually take extra fiber since I eat about 2 cups of oatmeal and I get plenty of other fiberous foods all day. Thanks to that I get to pray at the porcelain alter daily.

Apple juice and natural cran-apple if it's available gets a daily flow going too. As someone said already, wheatgrass is fantastic. It's the most nutritious juice you can drink. That may be why it costs $1 for an ounce.

Goldenseal, Milk Thistle or a good colon cleanse supplement(which will have all of that in it usually) will clean you out wonderfully.

A high colonic will also clean you out too but unless you are a close friend of Dawgy it will be a bit uncomfortable I'm sure.

Keep in mind, red meat takes 4 days to get through your system. That's plenty of time to rot in your gut. Poultry and fish don't take a s long. Enjoy that thought.

Quick fasting probably works best. If you have access to smootie places it's also kinda fun.

hoe_vender 02-23-2004 10:29 PM

you eat a lot of meat uh... nothing cleans the body like a nice tube steak

Sly go to the store and get fresh spinach not canned and make a nice spinach salad with baked chicken. In the morning eat a high fiber cereal like frosted mini wheats or grape nuts. You'll go to the bathroom believe me.

Oh and take liquid flaxseed oil, barleans is good I take it daily.

Or lime juice... and as a nice substitute for caffeine and sugary sodas squeeze the juice in club soda. No calories and gives you the fizzy of a soda.
