How do people react when they find out you're in the porn business?

How do people react when they find out? Oddly enough, the few girls that know seem oddly turned on, and the guys always want to know how they can start working in the biz. I've yet to meet many people who look down on what I do, but there are tons who almost seem to admire it.

What kinds of experiences have you had?

esluts 02-19-2004 03:40 AM

I often get girls asking me what can they do to make money.

Other times they are shocked that I'm doing it.

Then I show them how much money im making with it and they are impressed.

It ain't like I doing porn for a full time job. Side cash to party on.

Gotta move out of the ghetto, dude

natkejs 02-19-2004 04:12 AM

Hmm, the few girls that knows it doesn't seem to care ... or they're openly turned on about it.

I've not had much bad responses, but then again I'm a freak and I figure so are my friends.

Same. I talked to a real estate lady the other day who was really interested. It was weird, she had kids and stuff, but she kept asking me all these questions. Most people are interested, some are turned off, and the rest don't care.

Oddly enough, I live in the upper class section of this city. :thumbsup

It seems as if I'm not the only one making this observation. :1orglaugh

I get a mixture of laughs (embarrassed on their part) and interest. Although I'd say its less passé over here in the UK.

pradaboy 02-19-2004 04:48 AM

guys are always interested and want to know what I exactly do and shit... girls act kinda strange when they hear about it... some are turned on by it somehow... never had a bad reaction yet

mrthumbs 02-19-2004 04:48 AM

when do people here realize they are not in the 'porn business'.

You guys are just nerds behind a keyboard.. nothing to act tough about.

There's no acting tough around here. If we aren't in the porn business then what would you classify the distribution of porn under? If you distribute microwave hamburgers, you're in the fast food business. If you sell homes, you're in the real estate business. If you distribute and sell porn, how are you not in the porn business? :helpme

I think you are being quite judgemental to a lot of people here, for many yes its the day job but others like myself have quite active lives, for example I do a lot of DJing which is geeky is it?

Dont get me wrong: perhaps some people in this thread, and certainly people on this board i consider member of the 'adult industry'.

But some kid pushing a few galleries during his time or some guy
having a few paysites is just a guy pushing some porn sites or submitting galleries: nothing to do with being part of an industry/business.

I get your point, they are not exactly producing the stuff themselves therefore in your view not able to class themselves as producing porn. But I tend to also agree with shermsshack on the point that its still the adult business whichever way you decided to look at it.

Good thread btw.

That would actually put you in the pest control business.

indeed.. I got some reaction like "wow it sounds hard to satisfy all those girls!!" I'm like... wtf??? (I'm only pushing porn as an affiliate)

Zorgman 02-19-2004 05:15 AM

I call myself a "Internet Traffic Sales Man". I don't sell porn, I sell traffic to my sponsors who pay me, they do Porn.

Still I get lots of "yuck". Maybe it's the area I live in, upper class sluts... thank god im moving to Chatswood. :D

ADL Colin 02-19-2004 05:44 AM

NO bad reactions. Ever. And I always answer truthfully.

The upper class thinks the money is cool and the lower class has no morals anyway. They can't afford them except when they fake it in church to have something to hang on to in their pathetic lives. In between the crack houses and the clubs near Ocean Drive, I don't run across any middle class people but I imagine they might be the ones that would react negatively.

Herb Kornfield 02-19-2004 06:08 AM

They always have a million questions and ask for passwords. Working in porn is a fantasitc conversation piece.

No matter how great of a job someone has, go to party and when they ask you " what do you do" and you tell them porn....You got the EVERYONES attention, lol......

Keep the pimp hand strong and your game tight.

:thumbsup

body 02-19-2004 06:09 AM

yupp, they ask for free porn with a big smile:winkwink:

Mixed reactions here in Scotland :thumbsup

Jace 02-19-2004 06:34 AM

most people are cool with it, very rarely do people look down on it....

llabtaem 02-19-2004 06:41 AM

IMO. if you own a paysite and you are producing the content and/or acting in it, you are in the porn business. If you are someone that makes galleries, runs a TGP or something along those lines, I would more so classify it as advertising or marketing.

Unless you got paid for it, you are simply a killer ;) If you did get paid for it, then you are pest control :Graucho

This is an interesting thread :thumbsup Fun to see people's opinions.

KRL 02-19-2004 06:44 AM

If you say "I'm in the porn business", it really sounds sleazy.

Better to say "I've got investments in some adult entertainment businesses."

myjah 02-19-2004 06:46 AM

well when my mom found out she cried. but other than her, everyone becomes really interested when they find out about the money. This usually happens when you apply for something or have to list your income, like when we bought our last car. The salespeople were almost quizzing us. It's all about the money.

Exactly the same here ... :)

ozmatt 02-19-2004 07:05 AM

i tend not to tell people what I do, its always "yeah i am doing graphic design/website design, bit of this bit of that" its always my mates that bring it up, and tell people... most people know i have been involved in the industry for a while, designing etc... but recently i started working for a brothel... so i get the usual comments of "do you get any freebies"

parents dont mind too much.. i dont talk about what i do around them or involve them in it... I also do a bit of mainstream webwork aswell.. so thats always a good cover for those who arent so open minded.

matt

Danny_C 02-19-2004 07:07 AM

Interesting that you ask that... I just had a situation a couple of nights ago.

Was hanging out with a girl I didn't really know, and the first thing she asked me was what I did for a living. I can't lie, but I didn't know if she was cool with it or not.

Long story short, she was very cool with it, and said the only problem she has with porn is that she can't find enough Catholic school girls.

Their comments are usually positive ones, with lots of questions from females as well as males. Many guys ask me to let them be a quiet mouse on a set sometime (some of whom MISTAKENLY think that just being on set with a porn girl means that they will get at least a blowjob)----I never let "visitors" on sets!

I agree most here are in the online marketing business not the porn business. Which is a very good place to be, you dont need as much room. lol

Sosa 02-19-2004 09:23 AM

My friends think it is cool, the ones who know anyways. Girls don't seem to mind. Girlfriend doesn' tknow yet

That works for me:)

Just about everyone I know will eventually ask me a question about PCs or satellites and when I answer them they usually reply about how far over their heads the answer is (on actually simple stuff), so I use that to my advantage when someone gets to ??? about how I am making $$$ online I spew a bit about HTML and getting sponsors that match your site, then send them dazed and confused off to one of my mainstream sites:)

Unfortunately that sometimes backfires when they ask if I can help them set up a site to make $$$... I handle that by telling them to come up with their idea, get all of their content, text, etc. all ready and I will do their layout. Haven't been taken up on it once:1orglaugh

You're a genius!

kelly 02-19-2004 09:51 AM

The first time I'm asked I respond 'I work in internet sales and advertising' - totally true, if anyone is really interested and keeps on questioning 'I mainly work with adult revenue companies', if they're still interested I give them some URL's, I'm not embarassed at all with what I do but I don't want to smack someone in the face with porn after a simple enquiry.

Lykos 02-19-2004 10:28 AM

It depends...someone like it someone don;t...but idon't care about them...my job brings me food on the table not someone else..
